Started out as a really uncomfortably funny comedy, the situations and some of the behavior feels really hard to watch, and that's what this film strives at.
But it inevitably slides into the usual predictable 'romantic comedy' tropes.
David Duchovny is very underused, he plays Jonah Hill's father, and that doesn't make sense to this millenial, because I feel like they're the same age, even though, and I just had to look it up, 'Agent Mulder' is already 62!
Actress playing the 'love interest' is uncharismatic, which ruins the whole premise for me.
Overall the film tries to say how wrong it is to typecast and be prejudiced, but shows us exactly the most boring, usual loud, proud, and yes, angry black female, as well as all her friends, who might just be clones and it would be the same.
