Before I start, let me just say that I'm very unapologetic when it comes to my Top 10. I love sci-fi/horror, so most of my Top 10 includes the genre. Also, while I use the term "guilty pleasure", I never really feel guilty about anything that I enjoy. It's hard to choose a Top 10, but the Top 5 comes very naturally to me. Did you know that if this was a Top 20 list, my list would include films that filmgoers generally hate such as Eight Legged Freaks?

Anyway, below is my Top 10. I have one rule when I make a Top-whatever list for movies: I leave out superhero films. I'm a comic geek, so I wouldn't want my list to consist of a bunch of X-Men, Batman or Spider-Man films (or smaller comic-related films such as The Crow or Unbreakable). Here it is...

  1. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) / King Kong (2005)
  2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
  3. Drive (2011)
  4. The Lion King (1994)
  5. Jurassic Park (1993)
  6. Ghostbusters (1984)
  7. Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991)
  8. Aliens (1986)
  9. Jaws (1975)
  10. Armageddon (1998)
  11. Pitch Black (2000)

So, there you have it. Technically that's a Top 11 because I have a tie, but oh well. :p

If you disagree with my list (which most people probably would), that's fine, but please don't go ripping me a new one because you think some of those movies suck.

Truth is, I'm a film-lover, so yes, I do like and respect films like The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca and Gone With the Wind, but I'm a child of the '80s who loves comic books, so the films in my Top 10 are the ones that I truly enjoy.

Generally I agree with drum, except jurassic park would be my number 1 and I would replace T2 with Jaws, maybe throw John Carter into the top 10 also.

Band of brothers is technically a tv series, but if you consider it 1 long film then it's definitely top 10 material

Oh crap!
Totally forgot JP! EEK!
Yeah, it deserves an honorable mention. The same with Matrix (only the 1st) ;)

This is very difficult because there are so many directions you could go. There are the classics like in the OP, the great blockbusters like Drum mentioned, and the cult classics that are just amazing. I agree with almost all of everyone's nominations so cutting it down to 10 is incredibly hard. I could definitely do a top 100 or 50 with ease

It's really a challenge to come up with just 10, cause there's so many great films out there. You have to argue with yourself. I think that's the fun of making your own list.
