Hello ninjas! :hidefninja:

Earlier today, I installed a modification to the forum to limit NEW users number of posts that they can make a day.

This is a forum wide enhancement, so no matter which forum they post in, these posts will count towards their daily total.

The limit is currently set to 10 posts a day, if we see new members abusing this limit as well, we might bump this down further to a smaller number.

When users reach 30 posts, they are no longer considered "NEW" and will have the full permissions to interact as all our regular members.

As many of our current members have expressed concerns, I hope this goes a long way to addressing those problems, while still maintaining our restrictions on viewing the group buy and trading sections.

In addition, feel free to contact new members in a polite manner if you think they may benefit from some advice about how to conduct themselves on the forum in regards to the number of posts they may be creating on a single day.

The welcome message for new members will be modified sometime tomorrow to indicate this new restriction when they sign up for a new account here on HDN.

If you have any questions, please feel free to PM Wreck or myself.

Why not just remove the 30 post limit instead?
Then new members wouldn't need to post pointless comments.

Where is a dislike button when you need one^^^

This thread is full of win with the exception of the quoted post.

Step in the right direction IMO. :)

because there is a post limit before getting to the trading forum and they spam to get there, this should limit their ability to do that. But apparently needs a little tweaking :D

A lot of us requested this as it would cut down on the amount of spam spreading through the forum from new members. By only allowing 10 posts a day until they reach 30 posts will allow them to just browse the forum and get better acquainted with what it's all about. They better learn what topics go where, where to post and where not to post.

People who are really interested will stick around and wait it out. This process will also help weed out someone from just getting in to do a quick trade/scam with someone and getting out. This process is not only for the new member but beneficial to those of us that have been here for a while and wish to remain safe in trading and selling.

This is good for everybody, be thankful that we now have this.

Correct, that member had a join date last month, so his account was not restricted in the same manner.

I've sent him a pm about posting, and he's been manually placed in this group in the short term.

The most conservative approach here is to restrict the new members, instead of potentially impacting our current ones.

Remember, all members can certainly report posts that appear to be spam in nature. :)

Yeah I know, but it just pisses me off when you can clearly see the only reason for posting was to be able to join a GB, Which he did. post #31. But thanks for speaking to him. Makes me feel better. Good job looking out Ap

This is great news, whilst most members probably do it with the best intentions, it's annoying though to see a load of old steels with 'This looks cool' as the comment.

Excellent news. Won't have 50 unread posts on my iPad from the same user, making effectively the same comment on all! :scat:

i havent joined a group buy as yet simply because i am newish to the site, its nice that you people on here trust us when we reach 30 posts to join the group buy but until i reach a 100 posts then i wouldnt even consider it. the posts i have put on here i hope are good but then some are crap. i hope this one is alright lol

Tink the daily limit is great, I've been here over a year and generally don't post more than 5/6 a day. Also I personally think limit should be raised to 50 before joining trading forums. The number that jump on a GB of mine having posted 30 or 31 is ridiculous, not that I mind. Great move from Staff on this. After all 3 days isn't a heap of time. https://www.hidefninja.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

I remember when I was a new member, I I got my 30 posts in relatively quickly, and someone actually called me a spammer, but most of my posts were of a decent length.
Having only been around for just under a year I can see both sides of it, but going back had I fallen under this new post restriction umbrella then I would have gone along with it no questions asked. So this is def. a good thing, it keeps things relevant and new users basically now must wait 3 days to become a full member. Not a bad way of going about things.

I think some main reasons people dont see is that running a website of this magnitude cost money. There are tons of members in the trading area that are stuck on 30 posts ... meaning they dont want to contribute to the growth of this site, they only want to take advantage of the trading/group buy area. That section and its popularity didnt get built over night nor by one person. It took a group effort. No one joins a dead forum, so a lot of that group effort was contributed by using having a post limit in effect. Its very little to ask of a member who doesnt have to pay anything to be on this site and take advantage of all that we offer. We in turn pay the hefty bills to keep this thing going.

Another important reason why we have such a safe trading area is by having a post limit it gives our staff more time behind the scenes to root out new members who are scammers etc. With no limit, they could do a lot blindly to us all. There's a reason why our successful trade vs. those gone wrong have an outstanding record here at HDN. Nobody wants to forcefully be a pain in the ass to new members, but there is a saying that I believe a lot in. "If it's not broke, don't fix it". What we have works and its protected each and every member of this site countless times without any of you ever even knowing it.

With that, I think that is all that needs to be said in this thread. :)
