ORIGINALY reported by Buffalo MX

Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Exposé on Amazon on BBC1 tonight

For those in the UK, looks to be an "interesting" under-cover exposé on their picking methods - Amazon: The Truth behind the Click. It's on BBC1 Panorama at 8:30PM tonight 25th November 2013. Doubtless it will be on iPlayer thereafter.

DHL to Canada

Has anyone had experience with a DHL paket shipment from amazon.de to Canada? Do they hand over the package to Canada Post after clearing customs? And how much extra should I expect to pay on an 85 Euro order ($123+ Canadian).

I've been lucky in the past with foreign orders not being assessed anything except for some car parts, but that was a $600 order and via USPS and CP, so just HST (13%) and a $10 handling fee from CP.

That looks like an unimprovement over what they were just using. :(:ohno:

Why give it all that side-side movement on the inside? Or is it secured with that plastic sheeting?

Is the steel under the plastic in this pic?

it might protect against scratches but not dents
Right! Nothing is going to keep that from getting crushed if something heavy is on top. At least the other packaging had some extra framework of cardboard (where the sides fold up and the steel set in the middle) that gave a bit more support/protection.

Ordered Batman Begins steelbook from Amazon.ca.
Steelbook has totally different artwork not as per shown on Amazon.ca

Contact Amazon customer service and told me to return the steelbook back for refund.

Now I have to pay return postage fees from Australia to Canada

I will never buy anything from Amazon.ca again.

Amazon.fr (France)

I would like to place an order of four Blu-ray movies. When I add the first three in my cart I get the normal shipping cost, but when I add 'Wolverine : le combat de l'immortel - Combo Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + Blu-ray bonus version longue - Edition limitée boitier métal' the shipping cost is EUR 9,172.34 which is outrageous and must be a mistake. Plus on top of that I get importation fee of EUR 15.16 while I don't on the first three in my cart on their own.
Why would I pay importation fee charged "on my behalf" by amazon.fr when I NEVER EVER pay custom/importation fees when my packages get to mail box or given to me directly by Canada Post's postman here in Canada.
There should be an option for the customers to decide themselves if they want amazon.fr to charge them the importation fee on their behalf or not. They should let the customers decide which option is best for them. Otherwise they will lose many customers.

What do you guys think of this forced importation fee by amazon.fr whether it is a mistake or they really want to go through with it?

That's a bug in their system. Somebody screwed up either the weight or the dimensions of the steel for shipping purposes. I had ordered it a few weeks ago and back then regular shipping charges applied (though it is not supposed to ship for another couple of months).

Send them another email and ask them to pay the return postage fee since it's their mistake. They emailed me a label when i got a damaged steelbook, but I'm in Canada.

Goddamn, I'm frustrated.

I have 4 purchases and now 2 replacements going back.

They shipped my replacements in even worse packaging (jiffy/bubble mailer).

Starting to get beyond ridiculous now... Never, and I mean, NEVER using Amazon.ca again until they start treating their inventory with some respect and start shipping these out in PROPER packaging. Which will probably never happen.

On a side note. Got the new steelbook packaging from Amazon UK. Heres some pics of it.

Yep, and it's a VAST improvement over the godawful 'Frustration Free' packaging they've been using, which invariably resulted in hard edges of cardboard digging into a steel and ripping seals, rubbing off paint and damaging slips. It was just an awful design, and I lost count of how many steels I had to send back that were damaged BY the packaging. So much so that I finally cancelled all Amazon orders and swore I wouldn't use them again until they saw the light and ditched the packaging for a safer design. Thankfully it seems they've finally done it, and I feel like I can begin ordering from them again. So far not one damaged steel in the new packaging, so well done to them for listening to criticism and making the necessary changes.

Yet again, another damaged steel from Amazon.ca.

I've emailed them countless times, as I'm sure others have, how bubble mailers aren't efficient and lead to dents, scratches, chips and accordioned steels. How much time and resources are they wasting by not listening?! Not to mention money?

Just going to start limiting my purchases from only select retailers.
