Hey guys! Wanted to share this with my fellow US & Canada members.

I suppose some of our European members can benefit from this as well.

I think this is very news worthy for all us steelbook collectors, so it deserves it's own thread for now. :scat:

I just got an order in from amazon.de and I was very surprised at the SIZE
of the box that appeared, just for 6 steelbooks. Well, it appears that for any
NEW release, that they haven't packaged up yet or a catalog release that might be on backorder (like my order of Judge Dredd was), they have a new box. EEK! :oohyeah:

We all remember that the package had been improved recently to bubble wrap inside a foldover box. :movie:

Well, now there is a new box, frustration free packaging, SPECIFICALLY labeled for steelbooks / metal packaging.

Pics below of the box, before opening and then after I opened it.

Regarding Amazon.ca - Am i correct in saying that if i order via expedited shipping to UK it includes any customs fees so i won't get any nasty surprises via courier?

One also assumes this is true whether i order 1x steel or 10 steels?

p.s. i've only ever used their standard shipping so wondering if its worth doing the above ^

Yes I believe expedited delivery is the way forward. I've asked this question before on the Amazon forums and expedited delivery essentially covers all the additional fees and saves you from paying a ridiculous amount on the arrival of the package. If you chose standard delivery and you do get stung you might end up having to pay a fair bit more than what you'd pay for expedited.

Here's a little discussion sourced from an Amazon forum about import VAT etc.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

My Amazon.de orders have all come in the same kind of boxes as shown in the original post. They don't seem to have switched to the slimmer boxes that Amazon UK now uses for some steelbooks, but I'm happy with the level of protection.

I just received a steelbook from amazon.de with a couple of dents in it, I can't be bothered to send it back and get a replacement since they packaged it in an envelope, but could I get a partial refund for the damage?

I was swapping around some orders with Amazon.de today and noticed 'Gutschein eingelöst' -€5.00 at the bottom of my new total. It means 'redeemed coupon' and I got a total of €5.00 off my new order.

I ordered pretty much the same things yesterday (only added 300 Rise Of An Empire today) and I got NO discount.

Anyone know what this is and why I got it???

I ordered the Italian Rush steelbook but that arrived with a dent and a scratch on the front. Very disappointed.

Anyone know what is going on with Amazon UK packaging? They used the poor A1 Mailer for packaging a new release steelbook. I'm hoping this is a one off, I could not even leave feedback for packaging, the steelbook was ordered months back. I think I may complain about this, I do not expect this from Amazon UK, only ever time I had this happen was from Amazon France, not suprised that was damaged.

Not sure what's going on with Amazon's packaging at the moment.

A1 Mailers were used on both my recent steelbook orders from .es & .it. Lucky they arrived undamaged, but that packaging offers no protection.

Every Steelbook I've ordered from Amazon UK recently has come in the proper Steelbook packaging they introduced, so I'd say this is likely a one off.

I ordered a Steelbook from Amazon France, though until today had not realised it was from a third party seller rather than Amazon themselves (they'd cunningly been called "Expédition sous 24H", so I'd just assumed it was Amazon specifying the dispatch time when I ordered).

It arrived today for me to find... I'd been sent an Amaray rather than the Steelbook advertised. Contacted Amazon France support, they kindly refunded me and said to keep it because the cost of shipping it back would be too much. Excellent service from Amazon, poor service from the seller.

I got Wolf of Wall Street from UK in a A1 mailer badly dented. Damn amazon

Wow, not good. At least Amazon support is excellent and you should get that replaced no problem.

Seems odd that I've never had a Steelbook in an A1 mailer from Amazon UK (being in the UK myself) but they'd decide to use one for an international order, sometimes I wonder what people that work in companies dispatch teams are thinking.

Unfortunately, it's all a bit of a hit and miss situation at the moment when ordering from Amazon's European sites. Normally, I try and order more than one item to take advantage of the flat rate shipping costs and this usually ensures that a box is used to ship them in. Sometimes, however, when there's a lightning deal for example, it's necessary to order just one and this is where the problems start. All of my recent orders for single steelbooks from amazon.fr, amazon.it and amazon.es have been sent in A1 mailers, whilst an order for 2 steelbooks from amazon.es was sent in an A2 mailer.

The problem has also begun to affect amazon.de which had previously been trouble free as far as packaging went. Two recent orders for multiple steelbooks ended up being split due to availability issues which resulted in A2 mailers being used for the residual items.

So far, all of the items sent in these A1 and A2 mailers have arrived free from damage but I would prefer it if Amazon were to revert to proper cardboard packaging. As has been pointed out, Amazon has excellent Customer Service across all of its sites and will deal with complaints promptly. I'd just rather receive the items ordered in perfect condition in the first place so I don't have to contact them.

what site do have great packaging ?

There's no easy answer to this question. It depends very much on where you live, whether you're prepared to import and how much money you're prepared to spend.

I just got a dented steel in an A1 mailer from Amazon Italy and thought no problem, I'll just get a replacement, but actually there's no replacement option on their site, just return for a refund.

If I re-order it anyway, I presume it'll come solo again and I could get another dented one. Would it be better to order two items so they package them together and hopefully send with better protection?

My own experience with amazon.it is to ignore the standard link from your order page reporting a problem with your order and instead contact Customer Service direct, using the 'Contact Us' tab. There's even a facility to e-mail them in English, if you don't speak Italian. Explain the problem to them. They'll respond very quickly and in English. They will undoubtedly raise a replacement order for you, free of charge and tell you not to bother returning the damaged item due to the cost.

There is also the same facility on Amazon's other European sites.
