Oh, I agree with all that, I absolutely hate those "art" series releases where they dump dozens of unrelated movies into one bland, homogenized melting pot. The series that have a minimal style give minimalism a very bad name. And I wasn't defending Zavvi's final choice either, I'm thoroughly unimpressed by it (although I don't think it's horrible). I just noticed that you've been pushing for Bale on the covers in this thread (I think--I haven't looked back through it recently), and I was kind of surprised by that.
To be honest- I don't think I have really seen one piece of art for this movie (pic images, or paint) that sets my hair on fire....
The closest one I like is the open silver Business Card case with the reflection pic.

Ah, that's right, I remember now. I liked the concept very much, but I felt like the image needed some work. It just didn't grab me visually. But I believe it would if it were done by the right person.

Agreed. Or...or... I just call my Lenticular guy and have him make one for me to stick over whatever Zavvi ends up choosing!:naughty::thumbs:;)

I agree why screw around with original artwork. I hate fanmade artwork
I just can't figure out the mindset. Example: How does anyone in their right mind, believe that
THIS: image.jpg Is better than THIS:image.jpg??!!!!!!!!

Use the Damn original One-Sheets!
(BTW- the answer is: the original poster is ICONIC and Kicks Ass!!! So now I have go out and get it made myself...) ...and it is not like Zavvi are going to piss off the studio...you don't need to get new art approved...Just say "we want the art that you already have!"

This is pretty much how i feel. With a movie as great as this you want to have the art design be equally as good and it doesn't seem like Zavvi is going to be able to pull it off. So I'll probably wind up holding off on buying this with the hopes that another company releases a better all-around version.

Yeah, I was crestfallen when I first saw that Poltergeist artwork. I wouldn't want one-sheets to be used on every package (the one-sheets aren't always great, plus you'd get tired of never seeing anything new), but in some cases the one-sheet is far better than what ends up on the cover. Poltergeist is the perfect example. I would love to see that one-sheet on a steelbook.

exactly the same thought here @C.C. 95 many times I couldn't figure out why they need to re-invent something that's already phenomenon and think it would be better...

Its like people begging for Iron Giant Mondo. Why? It already has its own hand drawn artwork from a totally animated film, why would you think Mondo art would be better artwork than original artwork from an animated film. Makes no sense to me.

Because some people like Mondo art?
I don't (for the most part) have a problem with Mondo doing their versions. Or any company doing their own versions. But the problem lies with the catalog title and popularity. When a steelbook is made of a lesser catalog title (less popular) and they screw it up (bad art/bad execution) - not only do we have to live with it- the odds that a second steelbook being made with better execution is nearly zero. I bet we will not see another stab at The Game, or Poltergeist or Speed for a very long time (if at all). Mondo can make Terminators or Total Recalls because we know there will be other versions. They are very popular titles. But something like American Psycho may have ONE shot and that is it. Does it feel like the studio gave a good tinker's damn about this release? NO. And when someone asks them for the rights to do another, they will probably say "Why? We just did that. And it is a cult catalog title that makes us no real money, so who cares?"
The best bet we will have is FA repackaging the WWA steelbook in a nice slip. (Assuming they can get their hands on the ones that don't sell. If people decide not to buy).

I'm up for this, crazy artwork, the Al Jolson inspired head, is all sorts of crazy, but so it the film, so who cares ?, I just hope that this is WHITE and not bare steel, as that would be a huge letdown.

Geez, I hope it is bare metal. They're pitching a perfect game with this monstrosity- they have to finish strong, and make this one of the worst steelbooks ever. It's like they are actually trying to make this awful.
