Then you thought wrong! :p

To be fair it's probably due a rewatch... been many years since I last saw it.

I know it's a pretty polarizing film. Not your regular war movie, if war movie at all ... no real heroes/villains etc.

It truly is one of those films that must be seen on the big screen.
I took a buddy with me to Rochester, NY for an event where Eastman was giving a lifetime achievement award to Vittorio Storaro.
He screened two of his films that he throught were the best of his career - DICK TRACY and APOCALYPSE NOW.
My buddy grew up loving DICK TRACY and didn't think much of APOCALYPSE NOW.
I said "wait until you see it on a big screen."
He was completely blown away and came out a true believer.
There are some films that have to be seen that way to really get it. (2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is another).

Interestingly - I totally agree with Coppola - there are scenes that were left out of the TC that should be in there - but Redux cut was too long.
(Some of the new Brando footage in Redux could use some judicious cutting).
I'm very much looking forward to this.

Yeah, I think that was my main issue with it at the time... I expected something a lot different. My taste in film has changed/matured a lot over the last decade though and I find I appreciate classics a lot more now, so chances are I'll end up loving it on rewatch!

2001 immediately sprung to mind whilst reading that... then you even mentioned it at the end lol. I've never had the pleasure of seeing it on the big screen unfortunately, but I thought it was the biggest pile of :BS: after I finally saw it for the first time. A few years later a mate convinced me to rewatch it and said "just imagine you're watching it on the big screen". I don't know if it was that bit of advice or if it's just because I had a better idea of what to expect, but it's now one of my favourite films!

Would love to see Apocalypse Now at the cinema, if only to say I have lol. As for Dick Tracy... I still need to see that one! :bag:
