That's fine to disagree. I was thinking about Dan Ariely's book, Predictably Irrational, where he talks about six ways that ownership makes us irrational. Some of them seem like things I see happening to people on this website (and, you know . . . to "a friend"): Ownership increases perceived value; We assume that others feel the same way we do; Effort increases perceived value (like, if you have to be online at just the right time to buy a limited edition item); Virtual ownership (before we own something, we imagine owning it, and the imagining makes us willing to fight others to get it, even paying extreme prices to get it).
