Title: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Release: 2025-05-02

Plot: An upcoming Phase 6 MCU film announced at SDCC 2022.

This is pretty cool

Still can't believe one of them won't move release dates. Of the two I'm easily looking forward to Dune more but reckon if I could only see one on opening day it probably would be Doomsday just for the curiosity factor (and to try and avoid spoilers)

I mean... I should just not participate in this chat because I don't give a single **** about Marvel. But I really expected this next one to flop hard. But at our Avatar screening the crowd was freaking out when the teaser played. It's kind of sad seeing how this blatant nostalgia bait on steroids really works with people.

I would say it’s not too much of a stretch to say this movie has a chance of being a flop. Before even considering the quality of the film: this is an effects heavy film, with a huge cast, and bloated salaries for the directors and RDJ. Not to mention the lack of goodwill from recent films and without the buildup you saw in the Infinity Saga. Also consumer habits have changed, people are not going to the theater at the same rate as before End Game, especially with the shortened theatrical window for movies before they go to streaming. Marvel movies are no longer a sure thing at the box office, just look at the most recent phase. Conservative estimates have the production of this film at $400 million before reshoots. Next let’s add in the marketing budget and go on the low end of $200 million. With how Disney has consistently underreported budgets publicly only to be revealed through disclosure for purposes of maximizing tax incentives to be much higher, I expect those numbers to rise substantially. Domestically (roughly 60/40) and Internationally (roughly 50/50, 75/25 in China) the studio gets different splits from the exhibitors. The film could make over $1 Billion and still by definition be a flop. Though, I think this movie will make money, it flopping is not out of the question by any means. I hope it’s great but I no longer go into these movies with the same anticipation I did with the earlier phases.

it's kind of sad that Marvel has to spoil everything in advance so that the film will spark interest among most people

imagine you are watching the movie in the cinema and see the original captain america, thor and the x-men. everyone would freak out!
i guess there still be some wtf moments, but still they f#cked it up.

This film ain’t flopping you beans lol. They’ve got China on board too. It’s their most anticipated film next year followed by Dune 2. Im calling it this film is easily making 2 bill. Easily.

And the 4th Spiderman 6 months before. Marvel actually have a strong year next year with those 2 films (although I couldn’t give a f**k about any of their TV shows in 2026)

The X men teaser trailer is sick by the way.

No idea why people think this will bomb, a direct sequel to Endgame and from the x men trailer, it's going to be all out carnage out of the gates. And with with Russos being executive producers on phase 7, they'll be back on top in no time.

I do however, have to disagree as I think Daredevil born again season 2 will be fantastic along with the Punisher special (which ties into brand new day).

I think it will be as good as infinty war and Endgame and tbh I just trust the Russos with Marvel after what they’ve already given us. Critics might be harsh after release but I bet the general audience love it which is all that matters.

Oh tbh I forgot about the punisher special but it’s not a series. It’s a one off special and I’m looking forward to that. I’ve still not watched the new daredevil and tbh also forgot there’s a season 2 coming out so I can’t say much on that because I’ve not seen season 1

I still don't understand why they are coming out on the same day?

Since dune had the date first, you'd think they would have reserved all the "premium" format screens (IMAX etc).
I can't imagine not being able to see Avengers on the best possible screen. Someone has to move.

Yeah I don’t get that either. I think Doomsday will be brought forward by 2 weeks but will be announced a few weeks before tickets go on sale

Season one got better as it went along, you can tell where the rewrites were added, they were the best parts. Fortunately, the team that did the rewrites wrote season 2 so it will be a vast improvement on the first.

I respectfully disagree. Thought I believe the movie will make money, I don’t see it crossing $2 billion. I would guess more in the $1.65-1.8 billion range. Deadpool and Wolverine (which also had China) only grossed $1.33 billion at the box office worldwide. Regardless, whether a film is a box office flop or not is a product of the net revenue from ticket sales minus the production and marketing budget. Some of that money can be made up on the backs end through merchandise sales, blu rays, and licensing fees. A film can make $2 billion at the box office and be a flop. This film is going to have a very bloated budget. Studios don’t invest that kind of money to break even or even make marginal profit.

You mentioned China is on board, gross numbers out of China can be misleading because of the disproportionate revenue split. So hypothetically and for simplicity sake, let’s say it sold $1 Billion in tickets in China, Disney would only get about $250 cut, the rest would go to the theaters/government. So $1 billion of ticket sales in China is roughly the equivalent to $500 million in ticket sales in the US in terms of net revenue.

I’m not saying it is going to flop, I’m just saying it’s not out of the question given the budget and factors I mentioned earlier.
