Very nice front! Great to see something not so over used as cover art. Gives me hope for more steels that arnt just the normal blu ray cover...

Does anyone know whether it's Zavvi or Disney that are responsible for deciding the finish of a steel? I sometimes feel bad for verbally trashing Zavvi :p

Even if it's ultimately not their decision, they could at least tell us the finish beforehand so we don't have to panic buy before it's OOS. But I guess that's why they don't.

/inb4 everyone cops out all the blame toward the studios.

I'm convinced that Scanavo's price structure (menu if you will) and projected profit margins are more responsible than anything for determining what gets a premium gloss treatment or not.

I'm surprised a company like Scanavo can push the studios around. If it's really cutting into their profit, they should just buy the company.

I'm not sure why you are surprised. Disney tried to go it alone in the USA without Scanavo, producing IronPacks and then Vivas, in the end Scanavo won. I guess that is one positive from this situation, at least we are still getting Steelbooks and not some other inferior form of metal packaging.

Because we are talking about Hollywood, the ones responsible for the movies being put into all sorts of cheap packaging. If I was going to guess, they're not making enough money from it to even care.

Say what you want about Viva's, but they have always had gorgeous finishes, ones I've never seen on a steel. Hell, Pepsi cans get better quality matte finishes than steelbooks.

the Viva's as few as were actually made at this point are winning the quality race IMHO. They are much nicer than many of these cheap steelbooks. Embossing without a giant ugly boarder, beautiful gloss finish, thicker heavy gauge of metal. They are built like a damn army tank and don't dent or bend very easily. I'm still sad that they have gone the way of the dodo.

Answer is Disney
All steelbooks
It's the studios who decide the artwork and type of finish
Matte or gloss or spot gloss

Suggestions are looked at and company's like Zavvi can ask for
artwork change and type of finish and it's Disney who made the decision and not Zavvi or amazon etc

Remember Zavvi Amazon Hmv etc are only sellers
They don't own the rights to a film
It's the studio as in Disney who decide what been released
All they do is approach Zavvi are you interested in a
This title
Sometimes a retail like hmv amazon etc will approach a studio looking for a exclusive on a title
But it's usually the studio who do the approaching

As a guy that has actually in the past worked within an industry that deals with product licensing I think you are wrong sir. Yes the studio has a say but I honestly don't think they care much about the finish given to a product. Who does? The licensee that knows they can make X more amount of $$$ by cutting costs and corners.

If it's a zavvi exclusive, I think they have some say. After all it's them who will get the most profit. Kimchi and blufans are all quality?
