Best Releases Thread?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and I'm just starting to collect steelbooks. Since there are so many different countries with the same cover art, but some have different slips, shiny vs matte finish, etc, is there somewhere on this forum where I can find what the best version of a particular movie is? For instance, I know that Thor 2 kimichidvd is the top tier right now. So how do I find out the best release for something more common like TDKR and so forth?

I think it's all down to personal preference in all honesty.

For example, Thor 2 Kimchi was nice but I find the idea of a slipcover over a steelbook a bit pointless and it wouldn't fit with my current Marvel collection so I opted for the Bestbuy edition.

We all have different preferences at the end of the day

You maybe able to find some steelbook release 'master threads' which attempt to collate all current releases for a particular title. There should be some discussions in those thread about how they compare to each other in terms of finishes,content, pricing etc etc

That's very true so the Best Buy edition I have is pretty good? I thought US releases sucked, haha. I do like the ones with the 1/4 slip. I see what you're talking about with slips though. It is just a regular slip over a steelbook so I don't typically prefer the full slips, but when I have had the option, I have gotten the full slip for some reason and then I want to take it off to showcase the steelbook so I think I might just opt to get 1/4 slips from now on so you can see both!

There is a 'Steelbooks Side-By-Side Picture Comparison Thread' that might help you decide which is the best release. Not all steelbooks are in there though but there's a good amount so you could start by checking that out.

In steelbook collecting there is no such thing as best version, you end up buying all versions

I have so many titles that I have 3 or 4 versions, others have 7 or 8 versions of some lol.

Personally I prefer the Japanese and Canadian versions of steelbooks, I use to collect German but got bored of having foreign titles so have moved away from those (unless it's a title like Hotel Transylvania and The Grinch which has no release anywhere else).

Either way when the steelbook bug hits you you'll be buying more than one version of plenty of titles
