Not too sure where to post this, as I don't believe they stocked steelbooks, but another film and game retailer looks to be disappearing from the UK high streets! :(

DVD and video games rental firm Blockbuster UK, which has 528 stores in the UK employing 4,190 staff, has gone into administration

Deloitte appointed as Blockbuster administrators
Deloitte has been appointed administrators to Blockbuster Entertainment Limited and Blockbuster GB Limited who trade as Blockbuster, the DVD and video games rental Company.

In recent years Blockbuster has faced increased competition from, internet based providers along with the shift to digital streaming of movies and games.

We are working closely with suppliers and employees to ensure the business has the best possible platform to secure a sale, preserve jobs and generate as much value as possible for all creditors.

The core of the business is still profitable and we will continue to trade as normal in both retail and rental whilst we seek a buyer for all or parts of thebusiness as a going concern. During this time gift cards and credit acquired through Blockbuster’s trade-in scheme will be honoured towards the purchase of goods.

Before I moved to Aus, I was still a supporter of my local blockbuster. They did sell the odd steelbook and I remember seeing Sweeney Todd in there every visit since its release!

I didn't even know you guys had Blockbuster in the UK! When my local Blockbuster closed down, I made a movie wall from the "place holder" cards:)

Blockbuster closed all there stores here in Canada in 2011 so this is no surprise at all and took 2300 jobs with it. This was simply bound to happen in the UK after they shut down in Canada and USA (I think USA has a few stores left though).

There's one nearby where I live. I'm actually surprised it's still standing. I see more people using Redbox and Netflix. I remember a VERY long time ago my parents tried renting a movie from them, but they asked for so much unnecessary stuff (even a social security number). It's no wonder they are being crushed by online sites (whether legal or not). The digital era makes it so hassle free and fast. Sucks about the jobs, it's already hard making a living.

This one I'm not surprised about if I'm being honest. The whole rental from shops died a death a long time ago IMO

Really? The 4 around me are just interested in selling you chocolates at the till and have no interest in Blurays :(

I stopped going into WHSmith for things like magazines and books because I got so fed up with the constant "Dya fancy a giant dairy milk for only 3 pound?" and thrusting a handful of junk into your hand with your receipt. Ugh.

like I said before in previous posts regarding Play & HMV , I feel so sorry for the Staff who are gonna loose thier Jobs :(

what is the officiall unemployment rate over there ??

We too have had lots of Block Buster stores close here !!

Only a few DVD Ezy stores are left !!
