I love Blu Ray Steelbooks
Why do fox and others include the movie on dvd
At this stage anyone buying blu ray steelbook will have a blu ray player
I would like the steelbook to only have blu ray
and if a 2 disc steelbook include the extras disc and not the dvd
Now if there was no blu ray extras disc released for a film and there was on dvd that has extras not on the blu ray release include the dvd extras disc
It also would make any inside art look better if blu ray has all the extras on 1 disc
I like my steelbook to include the movie and extras
Fox releases for example give you the movie on blu ray and movie on dvd
x-men for example would have been better steelbook if it had both blu ray discs movie and extras
I want to see future blu ray steelbooks only have blu ray discs and were there was 2 blu ray discs standard release give the same discs in the steelbook
What do others think about steelbook including a dvd but dropping the blu ray extras disc

Think "they" just want to get rid of the old stock of dvds as nobody really buys them anymore. If they do not include the bonus disc they hope we might go out and buy the regular 2 disc special edition as well just to line "their" pockets a bit more.

I think they should drop dvds from blu ray steelbooks, I've never understood why studios release blu rays and dvds in one case and a seperate dvd in another case. Keep them seperate and maybe they will cost less

I completely agree, but sometimes it's come in handy for example if I take a film round to a friends that doesn't have a blu ray player iv got the dvd copy in the box aswell but it wastes space and money for something I didn't actually want in the case

I would rather they included the DVD disc than not as they are sometimes useful. They don't do it as a replacement for the extras disc, i'm sure if DVDs weren't included, the Fox titles would simply be one disc releases.

As many of my friends don't have blu ray players, and as I 'only' have a portable (multi region) DVD player (for long flights and when in hotels and so on) I actually like having the DVD included. Some people with tablets and the like may prefer a digital copy. I don't currently own one and I'm rather 'old school' about owning physical media. I also find the DVD player easier to hook up to a TV, and it has a replaceable battery pack so I can carry one or two spares with me.

Extras disc missing sometimes is a loss as some extras are fantastic be much better to include the extras disc if was released in non steelbook version there always iTunes copy or ultraviolet if they want standard version of movie given
Its just for me I like no dvd in a steelbook and when there was a blu ray extras disc should include it just what I like other may be different in wanting a dvd but how many of you use the dvd

I much prefer having the DVD included, especially on new releases. I'm glad Skyfall* got one for example, but would have liked The Dark Knight Rises* and Avengers Assemble* to have had one too, just like Captain America*, Thor* and Silent Hill: Revelation* for example.

Having said that, it's odd when X-Men* has a 2 disc Blu-ray, but the steelbook contains 1 Blu-ray movie and 1 DVD movie. I intend to keep my old X-Men trilogy DVD boxset anyway, so I swapped over the first 2 discs from the Blu-ray trilogy and hope that X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand get steelbooks at some point.

*I'm talking UK releases.

I also find the extra DVD copy comes in very handy. My kids only have DVD players for a start so if they wish to watch a film they can. The DVD copy also comes in handy on my mac as there is no blu ray player.

I think the same for blu-rays. Blu-rays they included are often old stock.
It's a good way to make money. Repack old discs in steelbooks; and usually lose blurays of extras.

The more cheaper and effective way to make money: put old bluray+old dvd in a steelbook or digibook...

Robocop, Predator, Silence of the lamb, ... I think Robocop is repack of bluray from 2007. 6 years later selling same bluray that need a serious restauration work. But... steelbook is a beauty.

Within a time, new remastered blurays and new repack... It's always the same. It's just my opinion, of course. But soon we will see new ultra-hd blurays and back again...

Funnily enough I was thinking about this only this morning. I have a few amarays that I have double dipped on in steelbook and with the Fox releases, e.g Wolverine it was originally a 2 disk bd (although I have the Play exclusive whih came with an bonus special feature on a third disk) the steelbook however is only a one disk bd with the DVD so although I can put the main extras disk from the amaray in place of the DVD I'm left with an amaray I can't sell because it's missing a disk. I like my extras/ bonus disks and want to keep them because the steelbooks don't come with them. Also the Paramount releases like Transformers and the Iron Mans are only one disk so unless I want to piss about converting them to two I have nowhere to safely store it in the steel!!

In France, my editors'contact told me that the concept is that the bluray disc is for your home and the DVD record for the car, the portable DVD player, or the Kids'bedroom for some kind of animated or familial movies...
They can also justify a difference in the price by adding the DVD
for example:
The bluray would cost the same price as the DVD: between 14,99 and 19,99 for a new title
The combo Bluray+DVD would be 24,99
and the SuperCombo (or Superset) Bluray 3D + Bluray + DVD would cost 29,99

They should put the bonus disk in place of the DVD and for those that still want the DVD copy put it in a plastic sleeve like some French and German releases? This would probably bring the prices up though but what annoys me also is that although it's great that Zavvi now do steelbooks they are the same ones that Play would have released if they'd not gone down the marketplace route but they hav put the price up five quid, ie the Fox steels like Commando and I Robot, again probably lacking in extras and with the DVD but more expensive!! CON.
