'Modern Horror' films are not usually my thing. I was entertained by the flick, specifically because what it was trying to do-be tongue in cheek and interweave our pop culture perception of these various aspects in this film, the characters and the hilarious commentary running throughout the film. Joss' humor shone through for sure-the play on the various stereotypes of modern and classic horror, and the dash of unexpected 'oh no they didn't' moments ended up being one of the most fun experiences I've had at the movies (and I am an avid movie goer, and appreciate all of the Oscar-esque films as my core set of 'quality' cinema). This one though, for me, was one of those, where they were trying to twist things into the unexpected, be 'over the top' and encourage us not to take it all so seriously. Great comic relief and hysterical unexpected behavior by some of the characters. I can't wait to get the Steelbook and rewatch-ratings stickers or not. As a matter of fact, I'd love if we saw a few more Steels with different designs. Thoroughly enjoyed! :scat:

This got good reviews over at metacritic. A 72 out of 100 metascore and a 7.7 user score. I base a lot of my decisions on a lot of different things on reviews and this being one of them. Because of that and the fact that most everybody in this thread recommends it is why I put in my pre-order. I was told to not watch a trailer on this and blind buy all the way so that's what I'm going to do. I hope it's as good as everybody says it is. Can't wait to watch it. :scat:

To be honest, the less you know about the movie the better...don't read any reviews, watch any trailers, nothing...you will thank me for it if you go in totally blind

KP-totally agreed. I went in 'blind' (which I usually do, on purpose to films, so I can make my own assessment)....tastes vary, but I ate this one up, lol.

This film is great... it has action, comedy and of course the HORROR... Only down side was the ending, they could have ended better...

The ending was the best part, my friends agreed and we all loved the film. I left the theater with goosebumps. I'm a huge horror fan, if you love horror comedies like Evil Dead 2 and Drag Me to Hell you'll probably enjoy this as well. Favorite film of the year so far.

ya that's exactly my approach... I know nothing about this movie, am avoiding all trailers and reviews... total blind buy for me :D

I enjoyed this but I won't go as far as saying its one of the best films out there.
I went into this movie blind but as the film went on, it straight-away reminded me of some of Whedon's earlier work.
As others mentioned, certainly don't watch any trailers - the less you know the better :)

I can't think of a better recent horror, especially one so clever!

For me, the movie didn't remind me of a horror movies.
It was more like a tv episode out of Angel or Buffy - shady operation : Wolfram & Hart, The Initiative ?! ;)
