The Killing Fields SteelBook was cancelled by the distributor at the beginning of the year, and it was stated that they would only be releasing the standard Amaray version. They made announcements about it via Twitter and everything

That doesn't rule out a Steelbook release in the future.

Well, I wouldn't have seen that as I don't 'Twitter' , barely 'Facebook' and turn off my mobile phone when I'm not using it - it's the only way I get any peace at all :)

Given Zavvi's ongoing arrangement with Studio Canal, I'm surprised that they haven't picked this title up as one of their exclusive Steelbooks. It's a superb film and far superior to some of the dross they've honoured with a Steelbook release of late.

When my Amazon order was cancelled, I purchased the US Digibook which is, unfortunately, light on extras. So, if this were to get a UK Steelbook release, I'd seriously consider a double dip, provided Zavvi doesn't f*** up the artwork!

Surprises me too, and I suspect it may happen at a later date - here's hoping . . .

As for the film - brilliant script by my mentor Bruce Robinson - of Withnail fame, and obviously excellent execution of that script by Roland Joffe for whom I have the utmost admiration - The Mission also rates very highly with me :)

The Killing Fields left me almost speechless on first watching it; as did 5 minutes of The Toxic Avenger - but for vastly different reasons; and if the latter deserves a Steelbook, I'll stand on my head and whistle dixie for a month! :)

The film is really a textbook case of how to make an historical film, it never puts a foot wrong, never dares to gloss over the true horror of the Khmer Rouge, nor patronize its audience; it enlightens and entertains with fine storytelling in a way rubbish like We Were Soldiers, for instance can only dream of.

the rumor of an Asian release put the quash on this one... :p

(you know... a lenti, a full-slip, a 1/4 slip, numbered cards, holographic numbered stickers, 36 page booklet, 16 page booklet, photo cards, post cards, authentic period press passes, and 30 + loose/packaged extras including passports, identification documents, maps and amenities)

That sells out in less than an hour, and then some clever bugger pokes his head over the parapet and tells the majority of us - who missed it as we were working, travelling, caring for sick relatives, sleeping et al - that we had plenty of time to get our pre-orders in . . . .

Been there got the t-shirt :)
