While I'm generally in agreement weren't the prices for major label collector's sets more like £40-45? This coupled with the loss of the HMV discount, I don't really blame most people for getting sticker shock.I don’t care about this particular film. But whatever it’s excellent to see Universal UK unexpectedly announcing one of these great collector’s edition sets.
I totally get and appreciate the price complaints; they are perfectly reasonable. But that said, the costs are pretty comparable to other premium releases (the past sets are every bit as nice IMHO) and at least Universal UK are putting some effort into giving people something extra and nice for their money. Here in the US a steelbook alone from Disney and Sony will run you maybe $50USD.
I agree with you and that last point about the slipbox isn’t a minor one. It should have some nice treatment beyond simply being rigid, like the textured finish on the back of the Last Night in Soho slip. One of the things I and few others had mentioned last year as feedback was to not raise the prices so it is frustrating to see this bounce up to £50 now. Because this will be the new norm going forward for these sets and then another fiver in 2 years and so on. One of the things that made these sets great was value for money. Once you step to £50 you’re heading into premium territory and that’s when I start to expect even more from these. And they were great anyway but maybe some had minimal spot glossing etc and could’ve done with a little bit more. I can’t see any extra items included to what you would’ve had before either for that extra £5.
So I hope that extra fiver isn’t due to inflation and greed (which let’s be honest it is because of that) and is instead due to an even better quality product than before.
That steelbook has to be full gloss with some possible bossing like they did with kong, Oppenheimer, twister etc for a start. I won’t accept matte. Not like that last sh!tty steel. And for a £50 price tag I 100% expect gloss. Hope those art cards are double sided (the wording kinda implies both the poster and cards are but could also easily mean just the poster) and I hope the new slip art looks good. Some spot glossing on it too
HMV had a 20% discount promotion running for an extremely long time, basically everyone in the UK was buying with that discount. So for many collectors in the UK we've gone from a pretty reasonable price, instead of £45 for a collector's set it'd be £36 which really isn't all that bad and now it's £50.I agree with you and that last point about the slipbox isn’t a minor one. It should have some nice treatment beyond simply being rigid, like the textured finish on the back of the Last Night in Soho slip.
@sbarker since I’m in the US I don’t know about losing HMV accounts, so I didn’t take that into account. But, yeah, it makes sense that losing those accounts plus the added cost, which don’t get me wrong is unfortunate, makes people balking at the price perfectly understandable.
I understand people saying they dont want to pay extra for the art cards etc, but it's numbered and it's about having a collectors item.
I'd tell you who to blame for that, but it's not allowed on this forum...So we're now in the £50 range. Err, not going to do that
I suppose they don't want Limited Editions going out of the country, at least at first, seeing how they'll sell within, maybe lifting the block if there's enough stock.Guys, what is happening with Amazon UK? Lately it is impossible to order majority of the releases to EU - not available they say. When I change to UK shipping address it is there and possible to order.
Yep, apologies for that. The artwork is taking longer to approve than we had hopedHad an email from Zavvi saying release has changed to 13th October
So now the blurb has changed to new illustrated artwork on the back lol. I’m happy with the front art because I like that art but the back is a bit of a letdown. Should’ve illustrated the ghosts. Casper as the superman scene or something. As whole it’s fine but that wait has been a letdown for the new illustrated artUpdate: Artwork for Slipcase revealed:

Correct, the new art is on the poster, they would not let us put it on the slipcase. The full art is pretty cool I think with the elements in the house forming the features of Casper within the silhouette. Going for a Tim Burton vibe which the film definitely has in its set design. Glad that you are at least getting to see itJust realised the new art is on the poster and they’ve taken the image from the lower right part and put it on the back of the slip
