I’m so tempted but £105!!! Man I can’t pay that for it. Fukin crazy prices these OABs

It's mad really, discounting the RRP of the steelbook/disc, you're paying above £70 for an outer slip, an inner slip and some other bits of card and paper.
Look, I'm not knocking them - some of the designs are awesome and the quality is way up there - but that's such a large amount for what is essentially just the materials, ink, print, labour and manufacturing.

They do tend to exponentially increase their value pretty fast and fairly consistently across all the titles.
So there's that. If that's your thing. To some it is. For me. I'd only buy a title I really really care for. All the deep pockets buy them up though

Yup. It's a lot of wonga for what is essentially a WWA (n)
It’s a shame because if say Manta release this, you’ll get all that art divided between 3 sets and a OC so it’s cool to get all this artwork on 1 edition. I just can’t pay £105 for it. Don’t feel right to me. And yeah if I'm buying it I'm buying it for me.

I can see me complaining once a WEA premium Is announced that I don’t like the art and I wish I went for this

Yeah, the single slip OAB range really isn't for me at the £100+ price point. I bought Blade Runner and Interstellar, but those really are exceptions to the rule for me (and most people) tbh. I had the Harry Potter one as well, but I got a replacement lenti slip for it, and just stuck my 20th steel in that and sold the set.

Gladiator 2, even though I don't want 2 slips and will sell on the fullslip, does at least offer better value. As that's worked out at less than £70 per slip, which is more reasonable. Similarly with the Mad Max Anthology. It cost me £200 on ebay, ~ £50 a slip.

That's probably true, take a look at The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth collector edition sets that come out next month, they're 70 quid each!!

I think Labyrinth and Dark Crystal are £70 only because it's Alltheanime who picked up the license to release them. They've got previous for hiking up collector set prices.
They did it for Godzilla Minus One and for Perfect Blue. Both were over £65/70
Always way overpriced.

Not sure why everyone is getting so freaked out over the cost of this? Most premium companies prices have gone up the last couple years, they blame shipping but it’s not just that. I’d much rather spend less but if the premium companies are selling out the majority of there stock, there not changing. I’m not a fan of how many copies zeta does of there Gold Series currently, praying ML stays at 600 copies for there OC’s, remember when it was 400 or less? Fight Club, WW, and so on.

The last dozen or so OABs have all been $130 except for Top Gun Maverick which was $155 it came with both steelbooks and Top Gun was $125 for some reason?
Certainly not including OABs with multiple slips like Mad Max Anthology or The Godfather Trilogy.

You have to go back to Training Day, early 2024 for the most recent release that was under $130, it was $110. Further back Vertigo, The Sting, Rear Window, all were $95.

You could get Blufans Exclusives for $55-$65 back with Frozen, the 1st and 2nd Marvel Waves, and all the rest.
Just an example Zeta Gold and Silver Label Boxsets despite much larger print runs for the Gold Label which used to be 300-400 copies now have 750-1K print runs. I don’t even need to look back to know the first Interstellar Box set was far less than the second 4K release. Especially recent releases, the cost from there first dozen releases to now is a large price gap just like all the rest of the premium companies.

The Blade Runner 2049 BF OAB Boxset was only $100 back in 2021, talk about a deal! That would probably be $250 minimum today and they would all sell out.
Part of it is with so many more collectors than say 2016 they can up the prices for limited print runs especially for popular titles. Ahh the good old days, we didn’t know how good we had it, I miss magneto.

Yeah, that's what happens when an anime company releases 'regular' movies – you get 'anime prices'.
We got 'conditioned' into paying $30 per volume for at least 6 volumes in a season, then 65-80 for a boxset, if it's all in one.

This is just the first season, and it cost $330 in 2001 from ADV, another anime company releasing a 'regular' series, as an extreme example. :wow:

I remember mate. Plus we had to import the US stuff as well.
Bubblegum Crisis from AnimEigo was about £19-25 per VHS tape with 1 episode on it. All 8 of the original series cost close to £200 back in 1994.
Absolutely insane. For that sh*t quality and 50 minute episode.
I stopped collecting series back then when I realised it was a con and stuck to the movies and limited OVAs instead.
AnimEigo were ridiculous and not much better 6 years later with DVD.

Why are we comparing a TV show with 8-20+ episodes, hundreds of hours requiring a lot of discs versus a regular 2 hour film?
