What's with the text on the front? They could have left the front side with just art. Would have been nice colors..looked half finished with the blank white back

It's supposed to look like a 50s magazine ad for a car--that's the point of the design. The book and film are steeped in 50s music and car culture. It's an interesting idea, but the execution is definitely lacking.
It's actually a cool idea but the picture of the car isn't that great. The blank back is a bit lazy aswell.
Ouch, that is nasty looking. I'd talk out the text from the bottom of the front, have the front all black, keep the car where it is but move the "Announcing...Christine" title to the bottom, then it would at least look better.

From all the book covers and movie posters etc....and they come up with this monstrosity.

I wish they'd gone with this. Emboss the title and gloss it up.
i originally bought the twilight time release of this as I love the film!
