Classic movie label the Criterion Collection is to launch on Blu-ray in the U.K. on April 18 following a multi-year home entertainment distribution pact with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Until now Criterion has only been available in the U.S. and Canada.

SPHE will bring selected titles from Criterion’s extensive catalog and future new release slate to the U.K. for the first time. The first wave of films, featuring all the supplements from the U.S. editions along with their exclusive artwork and packaging, are “Grey Gardens,” “It Happened One Night,” Roman Polanski’s “Macbeth,” “Only Angels Have Wings,” “Speedy” and “Tootsie.”

Criterion Collection chief executive officer Jonathan Turell said: “We are excited to launch the Criterion Collection in the U.K. Starting with these six great titles, we are happy to be able to bring selections from Criterion to our very devoted audience in the U.K. We are thrilled to build upon our strong relationship with Sony and look forward to expanding the Criterion audience.”

“Criterion represents the very best of classic and contemporary filmmaking and we are delighted to bring this prestigious collection to the U.K. for the first time,” added Aodan Coburn, executive VP, international, SPHE. “This partnership demonstrates SPHE’s continued commitment to growing our distribution business.”

Seems to be sold out. Don’t know it it’ll be back in stock before the offer ends though? Better keep an eye out at least.
It was showing as sold out last night and then came back in stock so hopefully it will do again. It seems most of the sale items were showing as sold out before so hopefully it’s just a glitch.

Not the usual £9.99 we'd expect on a Friday from Zoom, but instead some newer titles, and saving nearly 50%.
I caved & picked up Do the Right Thing
Daily deals listed from 11:00 BST, so will check back again
Most are the digipaks though, which are always more expensive. Plus some are also fairly recent-ish releases, so I'm surprised to see those on offer so soon... not that I'm complaining! :D

I picked up Do the Right Thing and Tree of Life for the moment... might pick up some more over the weekend. No extra Criterions in today's 11AM daily deals unfortunately FYI.

Amazon will usually match Zoom prices but not always for some reason.. Seeing as I’m unable to order from Zoom, which sucks because they have lots of good offers, I have to depend on Amazon price matching. Last weekend Only Angels Have Wings didn’t get reduced, but Stalker did. I’m hoping they follow with Dazed and Confused this time so I can pick up that one. Already got Do The Right Thing.

Talked this one up
Amazon have matched Zoom deals on -
The Tree of Life
The Magnificent Ambersons
Both at £14.99. Both appear to be OOS, so no next day delivery for Prime members
Reduced prices on-
Do the Right Thing £21.64
Mishima £22.09
The Emigrants The New Land £21.76
Badlands £17.99.
Phew!. Think that's it for now.

NOW, VOYAGER - now, there's a true evergreen classic . . . not PC nowadays but who can forget that scene with the two ciggies:-
CompleteIllegalGoldfish-max-1mb.gif

Now just need THE LITTLE FOXES, THE LETTER, MR. SKEFFINGTON and DARK VICTORY plus a couple late period THE NANNY (1965) and THE ANNIVERSARY (1968) in the UK.

HMV/Fopp will apparently have a 2 for £20 offer starting on Monday. Shame their online store still isn't properly up and running. (n)

That's an understatement. I can no longer get into the HMV online store and even trying to create a new account makes no difference. Still locked out. Thank god for the physical store in Belfast or I'd be truly screwed trying to get any HMV exclusives.
