Not everything needs to be seen on blu ray. A lot of the films I have will never appear in this format. The picture wouldn't be improved anyway.
I think as time moves on there are fewer and fewer reasons to stick with DVDs only instead of upgrading to BDs and a few reasons for upgrading could include:-
- Disc storage space with a BD holding 5 times more info giving the disc room for better audio, video and supplements.
- BD resolution 1080p (High Definition) 1980 x 1080 pixels or 2,073,600 pixels compared to DVD resolution (Standard Definition) of 345,600 pixels meaning BD has almost 6 times the resolution of DVD.
- BDs have greater colour space allowing deeper saturation levels.and wider colour spaces.
- BD improved format features with dynamic menu system and advanced features that allow you to interact with online content
- Audio: While DVDs support Linear PCM Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround BDs added Dolby Digital Plus, True HD, DTS-HD etc.
- Blu-ray players can be bought really cheaply nowadays (for under 50 quid) and the prices of BDs themselves can come down to DVD prices not long after release and some discs nowadays are only getting a BD and not a DVD release.
- BDs are less prone to scratches when compared to DVDs.
- Ultra HB Blu-ray is coming with a resolution of 3,840 X 2,160 pixels and improved audio Dolby Atmos, DTS:X. etc. etc.
- You could check out some of the many screencaps of DVD and BD comparisons and the difference is very noticeable.
It's true that a Blu-ray and a well-mastered DVD can look very similar IF YOU ARE SITTING FAR ENOUGH AWAY from the TV as there is a point at which our eyes lose the ability to take in the additional detail.
It's also true that many films may not make it to BD (though never say never) especially when the studios keep on with the annoying habit of releasing and re-releasing the same damn films over and over and I'm maybe in a similar position to yourself regarding films on another format (in my case SVHS tape not DVD) that have not made it to BD during the past 10 years or so that Blu-rays have been with us and out of the over 800 classic films on tape I've been able to source maybe 10% of these on Blu-ray and then mostly Region Free copies from The States.

Damn it. I just missed this by a bawhair!
Clicked on zavvi link through this thread, read the last couple of pages of comments then went back to the zavvi page to add to basket and it's sold out.

Oh well never mind... Will have to get an alternative version m

You should check Amazon.fr , it's already up for sale there. :)

Welp glad I got my pre-order in. I knew it would sell out if I waited.

No doubt it'll be back when there's a premium announced. I'm cancelling if there's one announced.

4,000 copies sold already? I think not.
Plus people will cancel as soon as a Korean or FAC edition is announced.

This will be back.......
Indeed, always happens. Will probably be back in stock closer to release date and probably still in stock sometime after.

It will guaranteed to be back because of like you say other packages coming out (FA, Korean etc) but I doubt it will stay around for long as it's a new release and marvel. They always sell out out with zavvi (granted we may see a few pop back up months after selling out after release but these titles don't last long at all)

Saw it last night, really enjoyed it. Glad i got an order in but ill probably cancel as the Directors cut is also on the way

There's more? I thought that was the full cut?!
Would love to see more though if true

Yeah. It's sold out because of the way the majority of people here but. Get 2 just incase. Get 2 'cause I like to keep one sealed. Ordered cancelled and reordered with a code. Ordered until someone releases one elsewhere. Everybody moans about things selling out despite them being the reason why.

Yeah, TJ Miller let the cat out of the bag a couple weeks ago:

http://screenrant.com/deadpool-directors-cut-raw/

Ohh I hope this has the directors cut on it.
Or do you reakon they will do a days of future past and have a second release.
Might be a chance this includes it

Only because with days of future past it was about a year later, I think?
And the report says later this year which could mean when it comes to home media (I imagine around end of May/ june) or 2nd release prob around Christmas i would imagine
I really hope it's on this anyway

I'm not sure. The quote from TJ could've easily been misheard. He said:

Weasel said:
“But yeah, so the idea that when you see the fall director’s cut of it, that that’s going to be even more raw, that’s pretty heavy duty.”
He's quoted as saying "fall". Now, that would mean a director's cut between September and December. Initial home release I imagine to be around June. That's a 4-6 month wait for a director's cut rerelease. Pretty money grabbing for a film that up until this point has been all about pleasing the fans. The Rogue Cut took 8 months to come out, but then that's not a director's cut; more an alternative cut.

I think TJ said "FULL director's cut". Full. Not fall. I hope this means that the initial home release in June time will include the "full director's cut".

Or he could've said "fall" all along and the home release won't be until September. But 7 months is a long wait from cinema to blu-ray.

But this is all hopeful thinking and IMO.

I just thought that was a typo and it was supposed to say full directors cut and then also where it said about later this year.
Wouldn't be surprised if we see two releases but I hope not. Also I can imagine if it was two seperate releases then the directors cut would be next year (or maybe Christmas)
Here to hoping its on this and fingers crossed

The rogue cut, you know what I meant lol

As many releases as possible . . . LOL . . . to make up as much of the money as possible lost by alienating China (the world's second largest market for movies and by next year estimated to be the largest!) and getting it banned there by refusing to make the necessary cuts required for that territory.
Kudos to Fox for putting the fans first in this case but it could be an expensive one for them and they'll need to milk this cash cow for all it's worth.

Apparently the sequel is already in the works, so kudos to them for finally developing something right the first time! :)
