Love what James Gunn had to say about it - posted on his FB account - , no spoilers ;)

"The film has a self-deprecating tone that’s riotous. It’s never been done before. It’s poking fun at Marvel. That label takes itself so seriously, can you imagine them making fun of themselves in a movie? They’d rather stab themselves."

That's a quote from Deadline Hollywood, attributing it to a Hollywood "suit." I love Deadline and get a lot of my film business news from them. And I love Deadpool even more - the film is hilariously funny, has lots of heart, and is exactly what we need right now, taking true risks in spectacle film - but COME THE **** ON. That's no reason to rewrite history. This quote has to have been said by the dumbest ******* Hollywood exec in the history of dumb ******* Hollywood execs.

Let's ignore Guardians for a moment, a movie that survives from moment to moment building itself up and cutting itself down - God knows I'm biased about that one. But what do you think Favreau and Downey did in Iron Man? What the **** was Ant-Man??!

Come on, Deadline.

After every movie smashes records people here in Hollywood love to throw out the definitive reasons why the movie was a hit. I saw it happen with Guardians. It "wasn't afraid to be fun" or it "was colorful and funny" etc etc etc. And next thing I know I hear of a hundred film projects being set up "like Guardians," and I start seeing dozens of trailers exactly like the Guardians trailer with a big pop song and a bunch of quips. Ugh.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

Deadpool wasn't that. Deadpool was its own thing. THAT'S what people are reacting to. It's original, it's damn good, it was made with love by the filmmakers, and it wasn't afraid to take risks.

For the theatrical experience to survive, spectacle films need to expand their definition of what they can be. They need to be unique and true voices of the filmmakers behind them. They can't just be copying what came before them.

So, over the next few months, if you pay attention to the trades, you'll see Hollywood misunderstanding the lesson they should be learning with Deadpool. They'll be green lighting films "like Deadpool" - but, by that, they won't mean "good and original" but "a raunchy superhero film" or "it breaks the fourth wall." They'll treat you like you're stupid, which is the one thing Deadpool didn't do.

But hopefully in the midst of all this there will be a studio or two that will take the right lesson from this - like Fox did with Guardians by green-lighting Deadpool - and say - "Boy, maybe we can give them something they don't already have."

And that's who is going to succeed.

Have a great day.

Just spitballing here:
Item removed from Zavvi's site as they've sold their allocation of 2,000 pieces - shortly to appear at HMV Online for the remaining 2,000 pieces.
HMV = the home of new FOX films released in steelbooks including THE MARTIAN, FANTASTIC 4, THE REVENANT, HITMAN: AGENT 47,THE SCORCH TRIALS . . .

Its happened before to a few pre order titles, I think you are looking too much into it.

It's all a bit odd this missing listing, I do know that when it was first listed on zavvi, there was NO mention of print run and the 3D Bluray logo appeared at the bottom of the spine in the pictures, but then it disappeared for a few days then re-appeared , this time it showed the print run of 4000 and the 3D bluray logo had disappeared from the bottom of the spine in the pictures.

So why has it gone again, especially after it went live and sold out after a few days ?, god only knows, maybe there were more mistakes to be corrected, I'm sure we will all find out in due course..

I'm not worried, even though this is my first pre-order from zavvi for ages...

You may be right but I don't get why they couldn't just put "Sold out" with the listing which is what they normally do (even when it's not really . . .).
I mean to say (a) no access to it from this thread (b) from another forum I use there's a whole page of random numbers and letters and (c) from BR.com all I get is "The page you requested cannot be found"
If all that's not a wee bit odd then I don't know what is :)

It is odd yeah, but it's Zavvi ............

That wouldn't surprise me apsmith. A large majority of steelbooks touted at zavvvi with a 4000 print run ended up missing in the listing shortly after. I never trust zavvi numbers.

The practice many retailers sail close to the wind on is known as Bait and Switch.

In particular, if a fixed limited amount of a product is advertised at a set price, then that fixed amount need be available for that price. Otherwise Bait and Switch applies.

A quantity of X is the Bait. The Switch occurs if the product then becomes unavailable, but is offered as part of a separate, yet more expensive package, without X amount having been sold at the price originally advertised.

In England and Wales it's banned under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and is subject to unlimited fines and up to 2 years in jail.

In Canada under the Competition Act.

In America it's known as false advertising and may be open to lawsuit by customers.

None of that is to say I'm making any accusations, merely informing of consumer law.

I know this will be a money maker for all sites or whichever sites put out a steel but I'm hoping someone does a very limited run. 100 copies of the most amazing steel with bonuses. Something crazy like its signed by someone or something.

I know from a business stand point it sounds stupid but just a thought.

Maybe San Diago comic con can release an exclusive with WEA. I don't think they've had a steelbook since Suckerpunch so it's about time they did another!
