Amazon and Walmart when listings first go live most times list at MSRP price

The price on Amazon will drop before release date
Amazon pre order price guarantee will automatically apply any price drops that happen after you pre ordered and covers up to release date.

Walmart don’t have pre order price guarantee so any price drops that happen you need to reorder at that price.

Amazon will match Target or Walmart price drops

Maybe you overlooked it, but Walmart does have pre-order price guarantee. It's stated on the order page under the price.

"For items sold by Walmart, you will be charged the lowest price offered by Walmart for the item between the time you completed your order and the time the item ships to you."

Walmart have be known to not always auto apply price drops to a pre order that is why lot of customers even recently still cancel and re-order

Example Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes SteelBook some customers who pre ordered at $65 price that is the price they was charged when shipping their order even though walmart price had dropped to $34.96 before release date
