I completely agree.
I thought the first half was much stronger than the last half. And its one of those movies that might have been better knowing nothing before going in? Would have actually made it a lot more fun if you had no idea it was about aliens at first.
The CGI in this is very hit and miss. Some stuff looked great, others no so much.
Also... the random newscaster lady at the end of the movie might have had the best acting in the entire film!? She was amazing and so believable. (not that everyone else was bad, its just she stood out for me).
I agree with this wholeheartedly; like this needed a good job on the editing room floor. like it tried to go in 20 directions at times and just fell flat for me.
Hugo character seemed wasted, then you have a pseudo religious aspect where basically people are seeing other people in Margaret
Also no explanation why they chose these two or why they even needed to choose two people. Plus Hugo seems to have known that Daniel was one of the two people but he has the freaking alien how do they not know Margaret was the other one
just too many issues for me to overlook
End thought
while I appreciate the attempt at making this more action packed and serious in my view Arrival did it better and more convincingly
