Rob, it's not just steelbook collectibles - this happens on many things - even in the US.

Yep, sorry, wasn't trying to reignite the debate over the whole thing, I was just responding to a point. I've said my bit so I'm done on the subject :)

On a brighter note, I was speaking to an HMV rep today and she confirmed that the warehouse still have stocks of this, which are being held back to service returns/replacements and also to fulfil some outstanding orders.

So if you have a damaged item to return or are still waiting for an order to complete, there's still hope! ;)

If you want to blame anyone blame the retailer for allowing a single person to go in and buy 20-30 of the same movie.
:yeahthat:

But then HMV are struggling themselves, so I guess they can't afford to refuse sales, even if they wanted to.

I must admit, looking at them most if not all looked in mint condition aswell, bet they aint there by end of this weekend.

In my local store I'd say at least 50% were non-mint - they didn't look especially well stored/displayed.

Also for the first time some of the online orders I got weren't 100% either (no denters, but loose disc, torn polywrap and some with what look like scratches, but I think are actually creases in the wrap)

They probably don't use loss leaders in the U.K. as much as they do in the states then. I know here in the states even Best Buy who is struggling will limit the amount a person can buy.

The manager in my local store actually stopped me and asked what I was doing and why I was buying so many copies EEK! (took about 50% of the stock - i.e. everything worth buying!).

There was no question of her stopping me, she just seemed curious as much as anything - or perhaps she thought I was a bit odd??..

My opinion is that HMV might survive if they realise that their exclusive steelbooks are great money spinners for them. Even if they don't make much on the cost of the cases themselves I am sure they have seen a surge in their general sales and preorders if Drive is anything to go by.

As it stands they are the only UK retailer (apart from play.com who have had some dodgy ones) to offer a growing number of steels and this could well be a new niche for them. Here's hoping as I'm liking their work atm!

P.S.
I do agree HMV should start bubble wrapping but the card box is great as long as it isn't crushed. Thing is bubblewrap doesn't do much to prevent denting IMHO.

:hilarious: That's quite funny.... What did you tell her?

Just a friendly reminder to folks - please do not state that you have extras for trade or sale. If you'd like to update your trading thread in the trading forum with this information that is acceptable.

I've deleted a few posts today that state about how many copies a particular member might have for trade.

I'm going to add this note to the OP, so there is no excuse going forward about not seeing my repeated posts about trading in this thread.

If it appears that the same members continue to not listen to this friendly reminder of forum rules, we may have to seek further action including infractions.

Thank you everyone for your excitement and continued discussion about this release.

I agree 100%! HMV have always been my favourite store, and since they started selling Steelbooks I find myself buying more and more from them. To be honest, I very rarely even go in their stores now, as their prices are cheaper online, but also because I trust their packaging and have never received a damaged item from them *TOUCH WOOD*

I told her I REALLY liked the film ;)
Haha good one! A fresh copy for each day of the month, eh? :p
