So is this movie worth the hype?

Depends on your tastes. I really enjoyed it as Gosling's character is pretty complex. He comes off as a really nice guy at times, but he can surprise you. There are times where there isn't much dialogue, but body language goes a long way in this one. It takes place in modern times, but it definitely has an 80's vibe to it. Watched it twice already and really enjoyed it. I would say check it out, plus the steelbook rocks :scat:

Wow could be the movie of the year... amazing flick

I still haven't seen this. I was planning on watching The Thing tonight. I am going to watch this late at night this weekend while my kid is asleep. Don't want her seeing any of that gorey stuff.

It's one of those films that really takes you unexpectedly on a ride you didn't think it would and it's superb!!

I was disappointed after my first viewing, I think it has been really over hyped. It's classy throughout, nice visual style & music (GTA Vice city rip off :)) but the 2nd half is a little slower and I think it suffer the age old problem with pacing, it is really slow, builds up and up and up, then peters out.....

After a week or so I was still thinking about the film, so watched it again and enjoyed it a lot more. It ticks all the boxes for me, classy, no over acting, well cast and interesting characters. I still think the hype hurts the film, but watching in it's own right with lower / no prior knowledge, it could or rather, would have been film of the year for me.

Warrior on the other hand had not been hyped at all by anyone I knew & I thought it was fantastic, my wife even liked it and it's just Rocky with MMA :) Drive is a much better film, but as I say the hype isn't a good thing.

+1 and loooovvvveee the 80s soundtrack and the whole theme, don't forget the Jacket too :D

Lol at the jacket, I was thinking to myself why are you still wearing that, anyone would look a total tit walking about in it, but then Gosling kind of earned my respect. He is the epitome of Clichéd 80's cool :scat:

Yeah, I can see how a lot of people were disappointed. The previews made it look like it was going to be a total action movie. Luckily, I don't watch previews/trailers, so I went in fresh, and absolutely loved it.
