I verified a few of my UK releases from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (Elysium is a Sony title), and they are all region-free releases (Total Recall, Django Unchained, The Evil Dead, Ghostbusters, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Zombieland, Black Hawk Down, etc).

It's very likely that Elysium will be region-free, as well. I'd never take an on-line retailer's region coding specification as gospel. Unfortunate, but in Europe they usually just go with "B" to be safe.

Well, it would be great news if it's region free

Not all sony titles are region free I have this is the end Canadian release and it's region locked.

No, and nobody has said that.

But I can re-iterate that all my UK SPHE releases are region-free.

On the other hand, some of the US SPHE releases that I could verify (Zero Dark Thirty, The Woman in Black) are locked to region A.

Yet, some SPHE releases in the US are region-free as well (Taxi Driver, Legends of the Fall, Cliffhanger, etc).

So the only conclusion I can make, is that usually SPHE releases in the UK are region-free (pretty much all of them, from what I can verify).

It depend on when titles are released. If the UK release is months behind the US the US will be locked. They don't want people to import early and take away sales from the UK release.

If they are being released within a couple of weeks more than likely they will be A,B(C) .

This is not definitive , and catalogue titles are completly different (and most often region free)

I don't get the 4K thing...even if it is mastered in 4K does it matter seeing as most people (read: practically no-one) don't own a 4K telly, right?

Either way I might actually get this...kinda enjoyed the film and felt like I wanted to see it again...maybe. I'm not sure actually.

No one else miffed about missing bonus disc?
Even though its only 30 mins more, I want to get all extras I can but dont want to spend that much on the Amazon JP steel AND wait until February.
Hope UK retailer gets the bonus disc.

Mastered in 4K doesn't mean the BD has 4k resolution: BD is 1080p as usual, it's only the master used for the BD creation that is 4K, instead of 2K used for most bds

Highly doubt there's a Sainsbury's exclusive for this seeing as it's out in a month and they haven't announced one. Also they're shutting down their online physical media service, so who knows if there'll be any more exclusives at all!

Ah yeah just saw that.
Guess we wont get the bonus disc. US dont have it either so exclusive to Japan.
