Films You Originally Hated, but Eventually Grew to Love

Lawrence of Arabia, I first saw it when I was 13. Fall asleep after an hour and half and then woke up an hour later and the damn thing is still on.

Haha! It is a very long film... one I still need to check out actually.

Off the top of my head, Fight Club and the first Alien.

I watched Fight Club when I was an early teen and I just thought it was too messed up. I couldn't enjoy it at all. Watched it again a few years later once I matured as a viewer and ended up LOVING it! It's still my favourite David Fincher film to this day.

With the first Alien film... I made the mistake of watching Aliens first when I was young. I was on a James Cameron trip because of T2, so I watched Aliens and I was in awe. When I realized that was the sequel to an original film, I went back and watched the first. I thought it was boring. A few years later... again, when I matured as a viewer... I watched it again and loved it! To me, each Alien film is of a different genre. I just had to realize that before watching the original. It's such a perfect film. :alien:

That's hilarious! I think I did that with Dances with Wolves the first time I watched it. I gave it another shot while I was more awake, though... ended up loving it.

Similar story with me and Alien/Aliens actually... I watched Aliens first and loved it! Watched Alien not long after and didn't think it was as good, but did still really enjoy it. I often wonder if I would've still thought the same had I watched them the other way (the right way) around.

In fact, since you mentioned Terminator, the exact same thing happened with that too... I watched T2 first (me and my best friend snuck into his parents room and "stole" the VHS while they were out :p) and at the time it was the best film I'd ever seen! We immediately watched T1 after and weren't as impressed. It took a few watches for it to grow on me... I should probably add that to my list too actually.

Older films mainly! I was fairly obnoxious as a teenager and had zero respect for older films "as many teens do" Then went to film school where we studied some of the greats and why they were great, some of those that I have watched and called crap but now love and own are

Psycho
Rear Window
Citizen Kane
The 39 Steps
Bonnie and Clyde
Easy Rider

I can't say there are any modern films that have "grown" on me, I tend to give them a couple of viewings and if they really don't gel they will stay hated lol
