Zavvi has cancelled bulk orders in the past...And Amazon sometimes restricts to 2/3...So it is possible

Cancelling bulk orders isn't really the answer as you can order upto 5 copies. All what will happen is when this comes back live they will just get re-ordered again in bulks of 5 and then with multiple accounts. I think re-sellers know how to play the game!

As you quite rightly stated 1 per customer is the only way round which I mentioned @paulboland. But I don't see that happening.

I think you are missing the point. It means doing things properly regardless of the sell out. Zavvi have policy, regulations and procedures to follow to sell any product. If they want to sell the product then they have to do it properly. Not doing things how they want to. This is a limited release production and if they have not made an official announcement to the general public look at how many complaints they will receive? Yes they sold out, but the way in which they did it will get some hefty feedback from Eureka.

I'm not missing the point, I'm just saying that zavvi have messed up, eureka are probably (and rightly) angry, so when eureka announce the upcoming titles why bother saying 'coming soon, fright night on blu ray and limited edition steelbook, but don't bother looking for the steelbook as zavvi put them up for preorder too early and they sold out months ago'.. Or will they just say 'coming soon, fright night' and not mention the steelbook debacle? as I said, what use is an official announcement of something you can't buy? Yes there's a proper way of doing things but it's done now, no use trying to fix it now. I'm guessing they will read zavvi the riot act about any future releases and chalk it down as one big mess. maybe they will print more copies to placate the folks who didn't get one because of zavvi jumping the gun...I'm sure that would go down just as well!

Because Eureka have their policies and procedures to follow and still have to make an announcement regardless if Zavvil sold them on the wrong date. In other words Zavvi effed up and made Eureka look stupid who will now have to take the buck in but still advertise, but sorry it sold out due the incompetence of Zavvi.
Think of it like any product or service. Say the cinema released a movie before the company advertised it and everyone went to see it. They still have to make an announcement. I know that is unlikely but just an example. But for everyone who got a copy, don't think they care less.

Maybe Zavvi had to announce the upcoming of this steelbook which it did on Twitter I think. Maybe Eureka has nothing to do with it.

It would be quite pleasant to collect steelbooks if they were limited one per customer/credit/debit card/home address/IP address/social security number. At least people would have a chance to order their copy.

But they would just be way too complicated to deal with. Maybe you can apply for role in the steelbook pre-orders department

I was actually looking for a job in Guernsey about a year ago. Didn't find much work there.
Would gladly be a steelbook pre-order admin if they decided to go down this road but that's highly unlikely because they most likely don't care at all.

I wonder if this will end up being a timed exclusive... I suppose it could explain why it's so limited at the moment and the fact Eureka never announced it in their press release. Plus, have Zavvi ever had a Eureka exclusive before? It all just seems very odd to me, as they're a pretty popular label (at least in the UK) and this is obviously a very popular film, so they should know that this release could make them a lot of money and 1000 copies simply wouldn't meet demand.

If that's the case, then they should've said so right off the bat... they could maybe get away with saying 1000 copies are an early exclusive for Zavvi and the rest will eventually be available via other retailers (as I mentioned above), but to keep topping up Zavvi's stock and basically lying about the 1000 limitation would be an absolute p*** take IMO. Then again, that'd be normal behaviour for Zavvi, so I actually wouldn't be too surprised if you're right!

It wasn't me who suggested that idea FYI, I was simply responding to the member who did... but Zavvi have magically pulled more copies out of their hats before (of course I realise it's the manufacturer that would've supplied them), so I can see where the person was coming from.

As @cooey pointed out a few pages back... Eureka always send out a press release about their upcoming titles in advance, so it's strange that this is the first time that they've failed to do so, hence my previous suggestion that they may announce it if/once it loses its exclusivity - this is probably unlikely to happen, but I was just thinking out loud.

Personally, I don't really care how they go about it... it's their business and if they don't want to make more money from this release, then so be it. I'm just glad I managed to secure a copy!

Actually, I don't think this happens often enough for Zavvi to change policies. How many FRIGHT NIGHT sellouts do we have in a year? One? Two maybe?

How many items does Zavvi sell?

And as mentioned before, if they are able, I'm sure they would do another run of FRIGHT NIGHT SteelBooks to satisfy the obvious demand there is on this item. Then again, other people would be unhappy.

Zavvi regularly cancel large bulk orders on high demand releases lot more than some might know about
Lot of the back in stock just before or after release date is the large bulk orders not authorized by zavvi

This only happens with high demand releases a release not selling well they don't care how many someone order for obvious reasons
