Fair enough, you have a point there. I felt a little grouped in and spoken down to when I read the post originally; there was clearly a degree of misunderstanding on my part. You have my apologies.

In all seriousness, a title-less spine is not something I want in my collection. I've got a few and they just manage to get under my skin. I'm not trying to sound extreme, but it's just a step over the line for me, and if it continues it looks like I may have to start missing out on Disney's new releases, which would be a shame, as by and large they make for lovely steels.

No apologies necessary

If people don't want this then not buying and letting the retailer know is the only way this will be changed.

Zavvi have exclusive rights to sell it in the UK. It won't be available anywhere else to buy in the UK only at Zavvi. That's what they mean by 'Zavvi exclusive'. It doesn't mean it won't be available in another country though.

Yeah, I'm sorry I didn't get my point across. I understand what it means by an exclusive, it was just that I thought if Zavvi had the rights to produce the steelbook as an exclusive, then don't they have the right to use their own artwork? I guess that could be used against what I am saying as they must have chosen this artwork ;)

I don't mind title-less fronts, but spines :ohno:

Won't be buying this because that'll just be telling the greedy studios that dumbing down releases to maximize profit is okay.

Is there really that much of a cost saving involved in not including a title on a cover or spine ?

I can understand it for embossing/debossing or another special effect, but just for printing ?

Honest question to anyone who is involved in the production business

Has whoever is in charge of these recent disney releases said why they have decided to go down the no name anywhere on the steelbooks? Will they start doing this to regular blu rays? Don't think so, so why single out steelbooks?

I think you're giving Zavvi far too much credit there :hilarious:

Seriously though, it would take 30 seconds to fire off an email saying why you've cancelled. If everyone who was cancelling did this then Zavvi may take note. If no one did then this trend will continue until the next fad appears.

This is very good advice. I've got my orders intact for now, in the hope that there may be a change prior to release, but if I do have to cancel I'll certainly pass on my reasons to Zavvi.

Unfortunately, this is not the case. The studio has the final say as to what art will be used.

Front maybe but you wouldn't think the spine would be that bad since it's stuck on later. Then you'd just have to worry about a UK spine getting sent to France wrapping center... Grail!! :p

Each different print would require a separate production line to produce, so while there would not actually a difference in the number of steelbooks produced, the cost per steelbook would inevitably rise, and at print runs well into the thousands that can end up making quite a difference.

I really like the artwork.
Looking at Monsters University and the Lone Ranger Steels it seems quite obvious that Disney are saving a few pennies by using the same artwork in all territories.
A one design fits all.
I will get this as this film has taken my family's attention like no other since the big four of the Disney Rennaisance period.

i think steelbooks have evolved into something more than just a case for a film. its like a piece of art, an object to be admired. people want the steelbook to look nice, and most importantly- different to the standard release. so most steelbooks dont have any text on the back now, and what text there is on the front is minimal. when presented this way, people will pick up and admire a steelbook as an object, nobody does that with a plastic amaray case.
