Life finds a way,” and so does the passionate team at Prospero Hall, the acclaimed development studio of Funko Games, who has created a legacy game based on a blockbuster entertainment franchise — Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar, which will be launching on Kickstarter on March 22, 2022.

Known for its inventive game mechanics and gorgeous design, Prospero Hall delivers more than 24 hours of customizable, unique gameplay that transforms into an endlessly replayable board game upon completion of the final adventure.

The game concept, based on the Jurassic World franchise from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, was announced this September at Gen Con. The game takes you through storylines found in all five films in the Jurassic World franchise – from the creation of “Jurassic Park,” through the fall of the “Jurassic World” theme park! Over the course of 12 thrilling adventures, you will transform Isla Nublar into an astonishing paradise, build your own vision of the theme park, and breed new dinosaurs. Each adventure takes about two hours to complete – delivering more than 24 hours of rich, immersive game play experiences.

Players can team up and play as familiar characters such as Dr. John Hammond, Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, Claire Dearing, Owen Grady, and more fan favorites and all new characters while developing the park and unlocking new dinosaurs. Each decision made during play will uniquely and permanently affect the course of the game, resulting in dramatically different outcomes.

“We always aim to create games we want to play around stories and characters we love most,” said Deirdre Cross, Vice President of Prospero Hall. “This project has been in development for years, which has allowed us to experiment and innovate. We believe we are redefining the legacy game genre in a way that will surprise and delight tabletop and Jurassic World fans.”

Gameplay begins with detailed miniatures of four dinosaurs: Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptor, Brachiosaurus, and Triceratops. As players research and expand the park, they will unlock more dinosaurs from the mystery boxes while keeping park employees and visitors safe. The players’ experience will culminate in an endlessly replayable game shaped by their own unique park.
Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar will be coming to Kickstarter on March 22, 2022 for $120, distributed by Funko Games. Weighing a whopping 7 pounds, Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar has a unique 1950s art style inspired by the comic books and media that influenced the creation of the beloved franchise.

As the anticipation builds for Prospero Hall’s first Legacy game – the design team invites fans behind the scenes with a new video that delves into the rare and “clever” game mechanics of Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar. From Prospero Hall, the acclaimed development studio of Funko Games, Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar is coming to Kickstarter March 22, 2022.

Like the blockbuster film franchise it’s derived from, story is a crucial aspect to Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar gameplay. As you adventure forward, players shape their own Jurassic Park and the narrative behind it. From building placement to character selection and dinosaur development, every choice leads to a consequence – good or bad. This is intentional, as Prospero Hall Editorial Manager, Ruby Wishnietsky describes, “The best Legacy games are the ones that have that magical combination of story and gameplay.” She adds. “The most exciting moments are when the game throws us the twist.”

Everyone starts the game the same way, with a blank Isla Nublar island, however, that quickly changes as players advance through the 12 adventures. “The island will be your Jurassic Park, it will be your legacy,” states Lead Game Designer, Dexter Stevens. “You are given every opportunity to affect change on the island.”

As the latest video feature describes – your game play doesn’t end after the last legacy adventure. The Prospero Hall team brings decades of inventive game mechanics to ensure the game 65 million years in the making is worth the wait. When you finish the finale adventure, the game transforms into a fully re-playable game with a custom board created by your team of players. “Your version of Isla Nublar is now the setting of an exciting action adventure that you can play as many times as you want,” says Wishnietsky. “The whole game is designed to make you feel like you are in your own exciting Jurassic World adventure.”

Additional gameplay details are revealed in the new featurette. More behind-the-scene looks are set to be released in the coming months. With Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar coming to Kickstarter March 22, 2022, Prospero Hall creators have peeled back the curtain in a new video that details the creative inspiration behind a one-of-a-kind board game experience where the players feel like they have just unearthed a rare and extinct gem from the 1950s.

In this new “making of” Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar video, Prospero Hall creators discuss how they tapped into old issues of Scientific American, adventure magazines, and movie monster posters. The result was a game that has a distinct 1950s pulp fiction vibe.

In addition to the inspiration from fictional materials, the game’s board is inspired by Hawaiian tourism pamphlets and maps from the same era – giving it an authentic and whimsical vintage charm. “We wanted the game to feel like a dead stock game from mid-century where it hadn’t been opened yet, but was printed back then,” explains Product Designer Jordan Chritenson.

Every component of the game (board, stickers, cards) propels the player deeper into the experience. And, yet it’s the dinosaur miniatures that are sure to stun Jurassic World fans and board game geeks alike. The eye-catching miniatures of Jurassic World: Legacy of Isla Nublar aren’t just statues of dinosaurs – they are bursting from the movie screen and onto your living room table.

Prospero Hall used the same models from Industrial Light & Magic, the famed Special FX studio that worked on the Jurassic World movies, to help craft the designs for these minis. Each of these dinosaur miniatures appear in their most iconic scenes from the films. The T. rex is breaking through the fence on a rainy night, the Velociraptors are bursting through the kitchen doors and the Brachiosaurus is lifting its head regally above the tree canopy. All 12 dinosaur miniatures feature the same attention to detail and promise to become collectibles and a delight to those who like paint and customize.

Additional details on the inspiration for the making of Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar are revealed by the inventive creative team in this new video. One last behind-the-scenes video is set to be released next month to bookend previous videos – First Look and Gameplay Preview. As Prospero Hall prepares to launch its first-ever Kickstarter campaign, the legendary design studio of Funko Games is offering fans a look at what’s inside every seven-pound box of Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar. The game, which launches on March 22, 2022, will mark Prospero Hall’s introduction to tabletop’s growing Legacy game genre. In their latest behind-the-scenes video, the game’s design team “lifts the lid” to reveal what players can expect to see as they take on new and familiar characters in the epic story of the Jurassic World franchise.

Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar tells the franchise’s story in twelve adventures, each of which have their own components and game guide. As the video reveals, players open the box to find only a handful of the game’s pieces unlocked, including four unboxed dinosaur minis, a beautiful amber D20, six combat dice, a Raptor Claw scratcher, and an oversized 20”x30” game board of Isla Nublar. The rest of the game’s pieces are locked in boxes and adventure module envelopes that get opened during gameplay. As Editorial Manager Ruby Wishnietsky explains, “There is A LOT in the box, it’s heavy.”

Throughout the 12 adventures, players have the chance to unlock up to eight more dinosaurs, and more than 20 characters with unique abilities, knowledge and powers as the campaign advances. Other components include tokens, stickers, item cards and “mini game” boards, plus a sealed “Research Folio.” Lead Game Designer Dexter Stevens describes the Research Folio, “It’s like a giant lottery ticket covered with scratch-off stuff that tracks your whole campaign, but also unlocks little treats and surprises.” Players will reach for the Raptor Claw to unveil what’s hiding behind the scratch-offs – another game element that is thematically on point and wildly fun.

Additional details of what comes in the box of Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar can be seen in the video linked above. Previous videos offered a First Look, Gameplay Preview, and a deep dive into the Art & Design of the game. Those interested in learning more about the game are encouraged to signup for the Funko Games newsletter at funkogames.com/newsletter for updates and to be notified on launch day, rapidly approaching on March 22, 2022.
