I find it utterly disgraceful that we have been duped into believing that a particular release is LIMITED in number, only for whoever decided to release these (be it the studio producing more, or Zavvi stockpiling them for a later date) to go and announce more several years later - with the EXACT SAME ARTWORK no less! So regardless of whether this is a new print run or just new old stock that has been hoarded for the last three years in a warehouse somewhere, it is deceiving to lead consumers into believing that a product is limited in number when in actual fact what they really mean is that it's limited for a specific time only!

There really needs to be more transparency here. Some collectors may argue, "but we missed out the first time around" or "we are too tight to pay eBay prices", and those newbies are lapping it up because they don't see the bigger picture here. It's not about resale values or collectability anymore - it's about being deceived by retailers like Zavvi, and the shenanigans they continuously pull on their customers! It's stunts like this that lost them their loyal consumer base in the first place, as more and more veteran SteelBook collectors get fed-up of these tricks.

Consumer watchdogs should be brought in to investigate whether unlawful business trading practices have been breached, because to me they have. Advertising a product as "LIMITED TO 1,000" should mean that there are only 1,000 of that product. Not "Limited to 1,000 now, but we'll release another few thousand a few years down the line for those who missed out on these"! This is essentially the same as a country printing new currency to try to escape a depression

It's not HMV doing the re-release so it's no longer a HMV exclusive
Film Studios distributors the steelbooks are their property to sell in any country they wish to do so at any time and they can re-release their product at any time if they want to in a previous country that had that release.

Film Distributor Steelbooks are not property of a retailer at any stage

This is a european re-release and it's not just been sold with Zavvi it also will be for sale with with Film Arena and Amazon Italy and other retailers
It's actually down for a planned FAC release with Film Arena

Steelbooks get released in other countries and this steelbook was previously available in lots of countries so the stock can be left over stock from various countries or a new batch
HMV only had exclusive for the UK and that exclusive has expired ages ago

Steelbook exclusives are time period exclusive with a retailer and when that time period runs out the film distributor can do what they like with their property including offering the product for sale with another retailer in same country once that exclusive period has expired

The same steelbooks get released in other countries on a regular basis some same release date and some months or years later only difference is a jcard

All these rereleases need to be added to their respective previous threads.

As mentioned, they are the exact same Steelbook, so why have a different head? Just because they're being sold by a different retailer doesn't make them worthy of their own thread.

Unlike this one, both the Moon & Elysium re-releases don't have their own threads, they're just being discussed in the threads that already existed.

You write it like i have committed a crime that i entered in the world of steelbook collecting. I'm sorry i recently have begun to collect steelbooks, i just didn't know much about them previously.
I'll tell you how many "Mr.Vorhees" are out there: look at the 'new members introduce themselves' section here, seems like every week we get new collectors joining our beloved hobby. I for one welcome every new member and be happy for them. Even YOU started with your first steelbook at some point.
You completely misunderstood my words: I just mean that it's not true that "they are going to lose more collectors" (as ash333 said), since there are many "Mr.Vorhess" that just begun to collect steelbooks, and they are very happy about these re-release ;);)
I'm not judging you, just saying that for one "old" collector unhappy, there is another "new" collector happy, that's all ;);)

over the last few days i've had a few 'what the f""k' moments with rhe zavvi alerts for these previously available steelbooks.......
for me yhis is living proof that, most of the time, the world of steelbooks becomes more and more of a disappointment due to the constant recycling and lack of imagination...........

The steel is gorgeous, but im not willing to pay for this as the film is complete crap.

Totally understand, normally I act the same - do not collect crap movies no matter how awesome steelbook is, but in this case I made an exception, believe me it´s worthy, this is steel is unique. Probably never gonna watch this movie again, but Im still glad and proud I own the original :cigar:

I see your point :) I really hate the movie though... Really dont want this piece of crap film anywhere in my collection no matter how shiney it is :)

This was one of those rare occasions where I buy the steel for the steel.
And part of that reason was it only cost me about £6 a few years back

At least they're re-releasing some of the better steelbooks instead of some of the cra*** ones
Including THE GREEN HORNET, MOON, WATCHMEN, HELLBOY, WORLD WAR Z, HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, ELYSIUM, THE PUNISHER (2004) and SALT:-
