Yeah Mann confirmed he's finished the screenplay for it. Lots of casting rumours but the only thing that's been openly said by him is that he spoke to Adam Driver about the lead role.

Ahh, okay. That's if disney greenlights it. Mann hasn't exactly been on a roll recently. May find it goes to another studio, if it ever gets made, which wouldn't help the odds this getting another steel release.

As of today, negotiations between Disney and Mann are at a stalemate due to the budgetary demands of the director, and Disney isn't balking. Perhaps eventually they'll meet somewhere in the middle but as things stand, all momentum of actually getting the sequel off the ground has come to a screeching halt.

Really doesn't surprise me. It won't make crazy money, so I get why they set the budget relatively low.

I wholly place the onus of this debacle on the hubris and ignorance of Mann. His bullheaded refusal to budge on his ridiculously high number is emblematic of an uncompromising visionary who is a prisoner of his time and is completely out of touch to New Hollywoods evolving studio system and the shifting economic landscape in the age of streaming/social media.
