Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

I've only been hit a couple of times, usually when the box was from a retailer (i.e. Amazon) but even then some of those make it through. I've never had one get charged when the other person marks it as a gift though.

AWESOME! :oohyeah:

Thanks for the info. So these are walk in stores I could check out? :)

As opposed to.. what? Online stores?

There's a Carrefour in Calais you can walk into that, there might be a Virgin in the same shopping centre i'm not sure it's been a while.

If you're doing a road trip i'd recommend a short stop over in Calais. Recharge your batteries/get something to eat the food is awesome :movie:
Then get shopping and get on your way!

Posted this in the damaged steels section, but will also post it here. This is the reply from HMV to a complaint I made about my damaged Rampart steel. They offered a £5 e-voucher, I asked for clarification and this is what I received:

Dear x,

Thanks for your email.

We've looked into this for you and your evoucher for £5 is now in your e-wallet on the site, ready for you to use. We can confirm that we will accept the return of your damaged item for a refund.

If you need any help accessing or using this evoucher, don’t forget to check our Customer Service pages. There's a link at the top of all of our pages on the hmv.com site.

Just to advise you, evouchers can be used towards the purchase of anything on hmv.com (excluding hmv tickets) but is not valid for use in store.

Any questions? Visit the ‘Customer Service’ section on www.hmv.com; reply to this email, or give us a ring instead on 0845 603 8576. We're open Monday to Friday, from 9am - 6pm.

Kind regards,

The Online Service Team

So if anyone has any issues, bug HMV enough and you might get more than you hoped for! :D

It's not a recent release...old in Steelbook Blu-Ray terms...One of the golden era steels as I call them...A very underrated release IMHO :scat:

I'm know it's very, veeeeeeeery old. I even saw someone trying to flog a HD DVD steel of this EEK!

Got Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction French and UK, at that price might double dip :D

I'm already really happy with the french one :D I know it has forced subs, but it's nice to mix it up a little. Learnt a bit of french even though some is poorly translated. It has all the characters on the front, inside art and doesn't leave fingerprint marks. Don't know enough about these steels tbh haven't seen any proper pics or anything :dunno: I agree about Pulp Fiction though ;)

Cheers mate,

I've been on amazon to look a few times, but I meant no-one owns these yet and the pics on amazon aren't that great, probably pass on this wave, apocolypse now looks interesting mind.

They've got a pretty off-putting banner across the top at the moment that we can only hope they don't put onto the finished article.

Not to mention less than average desings, the one for starksy and hutch is the least-best fit for a steelbook, consider the colour schemes they could have chosen for this movie? Too dull.

I have 0 Aus Steels so I don't know...are the ratings logos always printed on? sometimes printed on? or never? or always on the slip/jcard/data sheet?

Defective Steelbooks & Play.com's Retuns Dept.

Hey there, I was wondering what your experiences are with returning defective Steelbooks to retailers such as Play.com.

I currently have a issue and was wondering how to proceed. Thanks.

I returned a copy of Casino from one of their recent waves due to paint damage (no dings or dents). It had a three or four spots where paint was missing. They accepted the return no problem and sent me a replacement, no problem at all.

I sent a copy of Kick-Ass back because it had no disk inside the case. If you contact them before returning it, they'll usually dispatch a replacement straight away and won't wait until they've received the item back (unlike HMV).

Hi, Can someone tell me if Amazon charge you for grouped items when they ship or do they individually charge your credit card when an item has been released?

For example: I only ask because I've pre ordered E.T. and Jaws and will have them shipped together to save on postage. Jaws will be released first, but E.T. is not due until about a month later.

So, will they charge me the complete total when they two items are ready to ship together, or will they charge me for Jaws when it is released and then E.T. a month later and ship the two?

Any help would be appreciated ;)

They will charge you separately for each item. I was in a similar situation recently where Amazon.de shipped five Steelbooks separately I ordered together with Contraband. They appear as two separate transactions on my card statement. They won't charge you two lots of postage though. You'll only be charged the total stated when you placed the order.

...now i know why i couldn't find that other thread :ugh:

So, is it against the rules to make threads about returning Steelbooks back to retailers or something? :ugh:

Please can the mod that killed my thread at least have some courtesy to say why? Thanks.

Thanks again snoolui. Your sorting out all my issues for me tonight!! :D

I thought I would have some breathing space to pay (what with all these awesome Steelbook preorders in the next few weeks!) But It looks like I better get saving then! :oohyeah:

btw it depends which Amazon you are dealing with. Amz.de will charge €7.00 to send 1 Steel or 10 Steels, Amz.fr on the other hand increase the postage charges as the weight goes up and they only send Rapide or Express to UK. Cannot remember Amz.it or Amz.es policy. Amz.jp have a sliding scale of fees so the first is expensive then others are at an additional sum (think it was 300Yen).
