Everything Blu Facebook

Release Schedule (SUBJECT TO APPROVALS!) - We would like to let you know our direction over the next few releases and as stated above, these are subject to approvals. We are taking on board suggestions of movies without steelbook releases but we need some sort of foot in the market before doing so. However, some of those titles have already been brought up in a meeting today, so hopefully we can progress further with those soon.

This schedule is planned to have full Exclusive SteelBook designs (Not just flipped artwork exclusivity). All would feature the same setup as Shaun of the Dead; Full Slip, Lenticular & Blu Box.

Casino EE 002
Hot Fuzz EE 003
Oblivion EE 004
The Worlds End 005

Thank you to everyone supporting us, please let us know you thoughts on the titles above!!

In summary: Creative, original, well designed, very pleasing to the eye
I hear laser eye surgery can do wonders these days. This is pretty much as far from well-designed as you can get. Creative? Original? It's a couple of characters amateurishly slapped together over a skyline and an explosion. There's nothing creative nor original about this.

our two heroes well placed in the centre
Any photographer or graphic designer worth their respective salt can tell you that putting your main subject(s) smack dab in the center usually creates the most boring image. It can work but not here, I think. Doesn't help that there's a lot of empty space in the upper left that just randomly sits there with no purpose behind it. Then there's the part where the characters are (badly) blended into the skyline and you can actually see the thought process here: "Dammit, the church's spires are too high. Eh, whatever, I'll just nudge it up a little to accomodate." Plus the picture of Pegg they used is absolutely awkward. It's glaringly obvious that he was leaning against a wall (maybe they only gave the designer this one picture with both Pegg and Frost to work with and nothing else... but why?) resulting in a pose that just doesn't work. In fact that can be said about the whole design: none of it works.
And I agree with Flloydo here, Bill Nighy makes absolutely no sense. It's not a "secondary character", it's basically a cameo. You don't put cameo characters on the cover of the movie. Might as well put Martin Freeman and Peter Jackson's father christmas on there, as well.

I disagree with you on peripheral characters if it means a bad photoshop being the cover art. If you're gonna use a piece of art by Drew Struzan, John Alvin or someone of similar talent then sure, fill your boots. But this is just a bad photoshop and in my opinion (and it seems everyone else's too!) the first piece was much better.

HOT FUZZ SPOILER:
also putting a side character who is revealed to be the villain on the front is kinda dumb

Of the art you attached I believe two (Bad Boys 2, 2 guns) pieces have been used on steelbooks. So I don't really understand your argument, how are you exhausted by it if you have to search the depths of deviant art to find vhs covers?

Maaaaaaaan, quoting you is a pian in the arse when you fill your post with images.

Dude, don't quote me . . . just comment and refer to the poster like this in your post @ --------. . . . or ignore.

No VHS covers just film posters . . . now edited more appropriately to Blu-ray covers.

BTW "Home video" includes VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, BD and anything else in between that you WATCH at home . . . in the same way that "Audio" includes CD's, cassette tapes, LPs, 45s. 78s and anything else in between that you LISTEN to.
You don't need to remember your Latin from school days to know this.

The argument? To show that nearly all buddy-buddy (cop) movies have just the two leads on the front and are B O R I N G

Just the two leads on the front and/or some of the supporting cast too?
Take the tremendously entertaining MIDNIGHT RUN as an example of two leads sharing the limelight with the two main supporting actors (both brilliant) . . . and, yes I know, not two cops but one ex-cop and one accountant . . .
Films are ensemble pieces after all:-

Yes, lasers are useful and not just for eye surgery . . .

You clearly don't appreciate design and would reject 99% of Blu-ray and poster artwork as that is how these things look in the main - nothing more than photoshopped floating heads looking forward, left to right or vice versa.

Absolutely nothing wrong with this front design . . . a design which as anyone can see nicely balances the badge on the back.
As for who's looking left or right or even leaning on a wall I couldn't give a flying f *** . . . and anyway Val Kilmer with the bipod rifle on the HEAT steelbook cover looks a lot more awkward . . . and as long as there's balanced artwork on the front then it's all good.
Furthermore it's not as if the secondary characters intrude on the two leads and it can be clearly seen that they are treated very, very differently to stars Pegg and Frost.

LOL at creative . . . when the designers get creative and give us Pop Art, Iconic Art, Reel Heroes or Gallery 1988 you should hear the howls of disapproval as people hurl "poop art" insults at the things.
Those designs are what's deemed creative (i.e. not just a regular poster slapped on the front) . . . maybe not on the Saul Bass and others more modern at the top of their game - but popular they are not.

If this design was coming from Blufans, for example, was confirmed gloss and with an embossed title you'd have to put on earplugs to drown out the squeals of orgasmic delight that would follow.

As for the National Treasure that is Bill Nighy I wouldn't object if he was replaced by a more important character in the film as long as our two leads are flanked by two other characters from the film.

I must admit, I'm not a fan of this artwork overall and it is all personal preference (I have stopped collecting any premiums that aren't Marvel or DC anyway) but like every thread on here this will appeal to some and not others.
However, in my opinion, this isn't terrible. The replacement of Bill Nighy would be welcomed and an additional character faded in behind and above him. To be honest, and this IS me being honest here, I would have rather had an image of the swan than Bill Nighy for the cover. It has always been one of the most talked about moments from this film and satirically compared to the work of some real police forces (or 'service' I should say, as 'force' is too aggressive)... and there is your comedy element.
Some people do need to understand the contrast of images between the front and rear artwork here though. You can delve into the meaning behind image placement and visual presentation forever, but the church landscape image is represented differently here - the front has the hint of explosion and chaos (that would represent the shenanigans following the arrival of Nichols Angel to Sandford) and the rear represents a much calmer Sandford where nothing happens with the badge projected along with it (pre-arrival of Nicholas Angel).
I understand it may disgruntle some people using the same image both front and rear but there is a lot to look into further when somebody... anybody... designs anything! That is the beauty of art, graphics and visual representation.

Hi Dazzler_31117

Ok this is the kind of feedback we appreciate at EB, I think members forget we
have changed and tweaked artwork in the past taking on board differing opinions.

Thanks

EB

The major issue with this version is that it has used set pictures of the cast rather than anything that screams 'iconic action movie pose' that the previous cover version and indeed the entire marketing for the film evoked.

Also agreed that the ghostly Nighy and Dalton aren't needed. It looks odd and a bit Star Wars.

Whereas the vinyl records were iconic to Shaun, that blooming great sea mine is iconic to Fuzz. Or a swan. Things like that should be on this steel, rather than Bill Nighy.

I agree it's not terrible by any stretch....I too like the constrasting images representing the chaotic and calmer Sandford on front and back respectively...but best of all I really like your suggestion of having an image of the swan on the front cover. Brilliant!

an image of the swan on the front cover. Brilliant!
Here you go . . . the Jock Mondo poster . . . with swan and without text . . . as wraparound art for the EBlu slipcase . . . already been used very successfully as LP gatefold sleeve art:-

As for the steelbook front there be swans aplenty out there but no official - or indeed unofficial - posters of a swan with our two leads (apart from the Jock ^):-

The three mock-ups kind of like these faces:-
a) plain ugly
b) wouldn't kick outta bed
c) tasty

Design 2 is also much more in keeping with the Sean of the Dead steelbook. If you want to add force ghosts I say you do it on the slip case and go with your 2nd mock up for the actual steelbook.

Why not print some nice transparent stickers of the other minor characters and send them to Virkia so he can "Jazz up" his steelbook to avoid it looking like one of his 80s buddy cop vhs tapes :)

Not a single agreeable sentence in the entire post, I've read it twice to check aaaaand.... nope.

You'd think someone waffling on so much would eventually say something (even by accident) that didn't sound like total nonsense. Give a thousand chimpanzees a thousand typewriters... o_O

I just don't understand how most people haven't clocked that he actually trolls this forum. Some of my favourites from his recent drivel

"Secondary characters . . . allowing the two stars of the picture to "shine".

"So good to see a fresh approach here with subsidiary characters getting a look in"

"posters of a swan with our two leads"

And My favourite (telling someone how to use the forum features when he don't know himself - **** knows how many times he been asked and shown how to use spoilers -
"Dude, don't quote me . . . just comment and refer to the poster like this in your post @ --------. . . . or ignore"

(Who says dude at 80? Only bridges can get away with that)

Some people like the new artwork (some too much) but I'm willing to bet that most have the opposite opinion.

@EverythingBlu if you really want feedback then add a poll to the original post and let us vote on the artwork choice (you can do that once the thread's been created right mods?).

I was behind this release but after seeing that artwork I'll stick with my horizontal Play.com version.
