Just curious to see what the general makeup of steelbook enthusiasts do in their spare time to afford collecting these little pieces of metal.

When I started collecting, I had just finished school and was still working at a local arts and crafts store making shite hourly money. When all those cheap WB steels were rereleased earlier this summer I was excited.

In the past few months I was able to land as job as an IT guy, with salary! Now my problem isn't having enough money to buy the steels, it's having more money and remembering to pay the bills instead of getting all the Blufans and Kimchi releases.

So how do you guys afford your hobby/habit?

Went to sell sperm to a clinic. Made the mistake of using public transport.
Missed the tube twice and ended up coming on the bus.

Uhm.... I think you're doing it wrong.

I'm not sure how I afford it really, I don't have a budget per month that I spend on steelbooks.

Most of my purchases and sales go via Paypal, which feels almost like virtual money sometimes, as I try to keep the Paypal account enough in credit before I make the next buy.

Just don't buy off Ebay. That's how you get ripped off and price gouged. Stick to group buys on here, PAY THE INVOICE WHEN U GET IT don't be a jerk, and you'll be around for a loooong time without going broke!

Quit my job, run out of crack to sell, sold 1 kidney, now I'm a male prostitute and just got crabs. I'll trade it for a nice blu with a slip.

My crabs are limited (edition) and numbered, pm me to trade for blus with slips.

Buy 1 or 2 extra copies at a smart price and resell them or trade them for a higher value Steel. This way you may end up getting 1 Steelbook free for every 5~10 Steelbooks depending upon the value.

For instance, you may buy 2 or 3 copies of a limited exclusive at the right time. Sell them once the value shoots up. Use that extra money for future purchases. Some may call this scalping but to me this is commonsense.

I am pretty sure many do this and there could be a minority who despise that but that's the way life is. Sometimes violence could be the answer for violence.:naughty:

I only buy steelbooks of movies I like & try to avoid double dipping although I have done it with a couple of titles I know that some collectors buy any title that comes out in a Steelbook some of the collections I have seen since joining HDN are staggering compared to the few I have. Each to their own I'm just generally careful about my purchases.

Good idea.

The people can despise this all they like, but those should remember this is what business retailers do. Buy stock for peanuts and sell it on and make millions.

Only thing is, if I were to start buying two or three copies per steelbook release I'd probably go out of pocket without choosing wisely. The Rush steelbook is proven example of this. Who knew it would go OOS so quickly? :wtf:

When I need money, I just apply for another credit card. I am onto my 6th. I learnt this neat trick sometime ago....that you can use a new credit card to pay the debts of your old card. Lately, the credit companies have been asking "questions". I need to keep a low profile....

i've personally always been selective on what i buy so when i do want something, i have enough funds. I work as a dog trainer both for myself and a major company and my own business is growing so funds are good as long as you learn to budget and not try to buy everything

Hmm - I budget most of my steelbooks. If i decide to go out a lot in a particular month i only buy a selective few. On the other hand if i decide to stay in i kind of go over board on the steel's... Damn i love those things

I used to suck for coke! No, but in all seriousness, I work hard and the Mrs allows me to buy some here and there. Sometimes I go a little crazy, which means I have to not buy for a while, but that's how I do it!

I just worked 68 hours over spring break, I'm sure a lot of it will go to SteelBooks. I also sell a bunch of random stuff on eBay as well as getting paid for making YouTube videos.

I am a college student so money is always tight, but since I don't drink, go out to the bars/club, or smoke, I have extra money to spend on collecting.

I am currently building a small arc reactor that I hope to sell on the black market to fund my collecting...building it in a cave...with a box of scraps

My job pays for my collecting but I recently stopped buying every steelbook I see lol and only get steelbooks that I really want. Also I sell my amarays and any duplicate steels I have (by duplicate I mean different versions of the same movie) as I only like having 1 steel for each movie...unless its one of my top 5 movies.
