It's good to see that even though a movie flops during its theatrical release, the studios still believe in its potential and release a steelbook just like for any classic. (John Carter, Battleship and Oblivion are other examples of movies that got little success in theaters, but still managed to get "steelbooked")

I think you've got it backwards.

SteelBooks are used as a collectible gimmick to move otherwise slow-selling titles.

Would you be thinking of buying JACK THE GIANT KILLER if it wasn't in an SB?

Didn't think so.

Thats not quite accurate. Pretty much any big budget blockbuster film is liable to get a steelbook these days regardless of box offfice numbers and projected home movie sales. Tons of hits got steel releases as well as stinkers

I got an email that my copy shipped. When I checked the status, the tracking number is for letter mail, meaning it could potentially arrive dented in a stiff manila envelope or worse a flimsy bubble mailer.

All of them made a profit though and Oblivion more than doubled its budget. Not the biggest returns ever, but certainly not bombs my any means. As has been stated if theatre revenue is lower than expected, then they will do the best to squeeze as much out of the Blu-ray/DVD release, that usually means a Steelbook.

I'll be interested to know what the manufacturing quality is like on this one. After so many QC problems with recent Future Shop releases (Nemo with dents, Django with paint chips, Zero Dark Thirty with paint chips), I'm wary of buying any of their titles now. A problem-free release would be welcome news.

I still do not know why the German title is "Jack and the Giants", it's an English title vs. an English title. Warner could've kept the original - sounds much better. The film, though, seems to be crap.

I agree with you but simply fyi, FS did not have a ZDT Steelbook.
