I'd love to get this and the Grindhouse steelbook if they were region free. Still it'd be nice to have this just for the Un film de Quentin Tarantino title.

Yeah even tho Grindhouse is region b locked, its got English tracks. I recently got a region free player that they sell at Best Buy (not knowingly) and played grindhouse on it worked like a charm. Awesome looking steel inside and out.

Hi Buffalo, hit or miss-I am not sure if anyone is getting Steelbooks as opposed to Amaray's via Amazon.fr for this title, anymore. Amazon.fr is notorious for randomly picking and shipping, and having the wrong picture. Despite many complaints from collectors who have had to return Amarays, they have not made a distinction between the Amaray and the Steelbook. Perhaps Bidou, Mams, or some other member in France can help if you're seeking it? Good luck! DB

Was thinking of ordering this and the Inglourious Basterds steel from Amazon.fr but I'm afraid they'll randomly send me amarays. Do they do this consistently? Is my best bet from ebay or a third party to get the steels for sure?

If you don't mind me asking, which blu-ray player from BBY did you get that is region free? I haven't noticed they advert that in the specs.

The answer is in your question ;)
Never trust amazon's pictures.

Thanks Mams. Here is what they wrote me in an email:

Dear Customer ,

Thank you for contacting Amazon.fr about items "Inglourious Basterds" and "Jackie Brown".

As per your message I have contacted our concerned department and I am sorry to inform you that in our stock, we have both boxes steelbook and plastic case. Unfortunately you have not the possibility to choose between the 2.

Please not that theses DVDs will be randomly selected by us while preparing your package ( just before its departure ).

We do appreciate that sometimes the amount of information we display may make it difficult to make a purchasing decision unless you already know something about the item. Our editorial staff are constantly working on increasing the information we provide about each item as it becomes available to us.

I know this is a year old, but, great oppotunity for a rant :D

Amazon france had steelbook and amaray cases and couldn't distinguish between? How does this happen the studio wouldn't have mixed them up and delivered them like this? Are they just intentionally stupid? Who's idea was it to force french subtitles anyway? This is a film mainly about African-Americans but also America more generally, why on earth was it being sold by such shabby retailers? I once read France has a ruling that BY LAW french must appear somewhere in the title. It happened with LOST the TV series, The Dark Kight (le chevalier noir) and anything else they can't translate directly. Tarantino needs to get this sorted!

BOOM! Great rant! As an Englishman (and I apologise for the generalisation) Ive had issues with French sellers in general. Tried to buy on ebay and despite being available for international shipping, they refused to ship to England with no explanation....

Coincidence I just bought IB steelbook (big QT fan!) from ebay france, the guy then emails me wanting an extra £4  then tried to report me as a non seller! eBay promptly sorted this :BS:

Irony is, I enjoyed my Pain au chocolat this morning, i'm enjoying the French Open final atm, and will be enjoying the France/England game 2mrw :D. I'm still can't get over the fact any french travelling to the olympics and/or wimbledon this summer leave paris train station and end up in Waterloo :hilarious: No really I love you guys, Cantona for life!

amazon.fr actually have 2 listings for this blu ray now. A cheap one with the amaray picture, and a more expensive one with the steelbook pictured. Who wants to buy it and see what they get?
