I was always under the impression that Jaws was essentially the name of the shark as well as the film, so therefore it shouldn't be translated to anything else and should be left as Jaws(?)

Perhaps James Bond should be called 'Gentilhomme anglais qui est un espion et dort avec les femmes'. It seems just as catchy!

Its just silly to translate movies original titles. JAWS should be JAWS even in France. In sweden it would be "Hajen"

Actually scratch that last comment! I just saw the pics of the Spanish release. The title is 'Jaws' but it's not embossed

In France we don't have common use as northern countrie to see movies in original language, translation is the normal way (instead I don't agree ) otherwise "les dents de la mer" means "Teeth from the sea"

In Germany it´s "Der Weiße Hai" so this means "The White Shark".
The french title is closer to the original title, as the german.
I really like the french one cause it´s unique and embossed.
