Have to agree, I feel like I'm not allowed to complain about GB's or the GB cost but like you, I refuse to pay £50+ for a title (tried to cap it at £40 but I've had to be a bit flexible since Brexit else I'd never get any steel's)

There is a general feeling on here that we're to be berrated should be complain about cost or set up's(I got a mini-lashing for venting my anger than all Kimchi's Deadpool allocations went to GB's....still KNOW I had a point...BUT that issue bought in the limits on future GB allocations which is a perfect compromise) but you just learn to live with it and sounds like you do what I do - get picky over what titles you'll buy cos I'm guessing you cant afford all the one clicks that come along? (Like me)
There's nothing wrong with that. Just dont mention the cost as it does feel like a trigger sometimes(again, harking back to the concensous that '..maybe you should be buying steels at all...' not fair or right but its the way it is ... :(
Your free to spend what you want and how you want and its your money to be tight with if you choose :) YOU earned it and can shove it up your nose for all it affects the rest of us, right? :)

That said - new system, perfect. Little extra cost for direct shipping and I'm quite happy(more willing) to give a few $ towards this site and utilise a GB rather than go direct myself now all the issues seem to be resolved(again choice and $3/£2.50 is not going to make as big a dent towards another release like $13/£10 would....)
Plus, the GB hosts on here are excellent on the whole so its win win with the current set up - money for the site and I've secured a copy already - easy.

Brexit has definately made it harder in the last year unfortunately.
I do pay £50+ for some titles (most recently some blufans) but it does hit you hard in the chest. But then I'm always happy with the end result of a blufans release (but they do loose points IMO for not using a direct site which still baffles me)

I'm always happy with a nova release too and maybe because I've always had good luck ordering direct even with the harder low print run titles that sell out, especially back in the day when your sitting at your computer for over an hour trying to order and constanly getting kicked to the start with the site crumbling and a heart attack on the horizon which I suppose was also a bit of buzz in a odd way that I refuse to pay over a certain amount for their releases because of always being able to order direct (cheaper before brexit as you know). But that good luck will come to an end one day I suppose and it could very well be this title.

Yeah it does seem that way I'm afraid and it's never aimed at the GB hosts but i also understand they take it to heart if we do have a compliant about prices as they do put a lot of hard work in. But freedom of speech is important to me and I wish you didn't get looked at funny because you voice an opinion on something they have no control over.
I fully appreciate everything the hosts do (they know that) and will use GBs when and where I can but some months it's just down to having to save some money and I will simply do that by ordering direct if I can make it on that that day. Have no issue with certain amount going to the site either but like you say if we mention anything then it looks like an attack on the site and the hosts when really it's not.

Anyway congrats with the purchase and fingers crossed I get a copy but like I said the other day, recently nova list them again after the initial sold out phase due to unfulfilled payments, cancellations and a whole other bunch of reasons so I try to stay optimistic if it does sell out straight away because 9 times out 10 there's another opportunity to order direct.
Manta also hold some back after pre order so maybe nova do the same and that's why they appear again. I dunno but I'll give it a go on pre order and hope for the best

I'm surprised the French one is so similar considering this is supposed to be exclusive artwork. Did Nova get shafted on this after the ink dried or can a minor difference such as a finish or text font make two virtually identical items exclusive of each other?

The French one doesn't have upside down spine either. So looks like a shared print run with minor variations. Hoping I am wrong.

Different studio, not a shared print run—and these minor variations do indicate it's not a shared print run, just two studios which sadly decided on somewhat similar artwork (also the upside down thing is a matter of perspective :D)

Text on spine upside down is exactly as it looks  It's upside down

Perspective as to how it may look to some people don't change the fact it's upside down :D :p

Steelbook spine with text is meant to be left to right
John Wick Chapter 2

Steelbook spine with text It's not meant to be right to left
2 Chapter Wick John = upside down text

You don't display your steelbooks upside down well I don't

French use of wrong way of text on spines is ok if you like the back artwork instead of front artwork

One possible theory ^^
This is a European convention (excluding the UK from Europe, as the UK often chooses to); German book spines are printed similarly.

It seems to be convention. North American publishers chose their convention so that the spine is readable when the book is face-up, as it might be when stacked on tables in bookstores.

I speculate that one reason for the alternative is that, if the book is face-up, there's no need to read the spine. So if the book was placed face-down, at least the spine might be readable, depending on the placing of a stack of books on a seller's table.

My French croods & looper is actually upside on my shelf so the spines are the correct way. As its only the spines I can see (whilst on the shelf) I don't mind them being upside down

I done that with a few of my french/german steelbooks but for other reasons I like the back artwork better

Having the spine title backwards looks out of place when you display steelbooks on a shelf and more so when flat on a table but I suppose it can have it's advantages it ends up standing out more being upside down beside rest of the steelbooks making it easier to find on your shelf

I don't actually have any on display with the front or back art displayed. I used to have some but I quickly run out of room so now all my steels are just lined up on my shelves with the spines on show

Wait hold on? You mean you have full back arts on show and they are upside down?

They don't even stand out like you say. I do it so the title is the correct way round. The only thing upside down now is the tiny blu say & 3D logo but it don't make them stand out at all. If anything they stood out before with the title being the wrong way round lol

Without derailing this thread any further this is what I mean....

Books in France (and Germany too I assume bc they have ""upside down"" steelbooks too, and perhaps other countries that don't release many steelbooks), for centuries, have had the text "facing" the front of the book. It's not a thing that DVD/Blu-ray studios have done for the fun of it, it's just how spines have been facing forever, and I find it logical, so yes it is a matter of perspective to say that one way is upside down and the other isn't.

Which is why, after the steel and gorgeous Fullslip for the first film, this is an utter disapointment; especially as the slip design neither matches nor contrasts the original.

At the moment, I'm thinking this is a fairly easy pass.

I also agree with the contrast. But the problem with passing is that there is no other premium release unless you want to wait for the FA version. That would mean the FA version won't match the first anyway.

So if you get a non premium sequel then you have a premium JW1 with a standard steel in a non full slip sequel. That's the issue.

Do what I did, source the Lenti (again) then at least you have matching premiums but in an O Ring instead.

The lenti is gonna be the winner here me thinks.. But I'm really liking Full Slip A, I think when pics are in hand there will be a lot of people to decided against this release ending up disappointed that they never pulled the trigger at preorder or in the group buy

Either way, regardless if it doesnt match or not for for the full slips, you gotta get this still lol. It's not like that Nova did a bad job or anything. I am sure the sequel be equally as gorgeous. In fact I like the sequel FS A much more than the JW1 white FS. The bright dynamic colours are cool.

I agree, I think the Lenti will be the rarer one because:
A it matches the previous JW1 Lenti
B it's the only Lenti available, where the other two are Full Slips

Just a quick update. Really surprised at how popular this title is (not sure if its because of the release or just the movie in general).

Approximate GB orders already confirmed across different GB's across the interwebs"
BOX - 247
Lenti - 419
FSA - ~ 300
FSB ~ mid 200

I just added some more allocation to Lenti & Box Set's for Direct Ship so have at it.

Where were all these collectors since the last few months :D ?
