Yes, that was my first immediate thought but second thought was a THE BURNING vibe for some reason.

This one my favourite of the available posters for the front although others are almost equally as effective particularly the big head poster which put me in mind of the Fox Direct "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" futurepak and of the not dissimilar Play.com steelbook front as well as the HMV "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". Maybe on the back.

The feel of the KONG steelbook image bringing to mind the calm before the storm prior to entering the "Heart of Darkness" of the "Apocalypse Now" steelbook cover.

Artwork on the back to go with it colour-wise or even just continuing the front image over the spine making for cool wraparound style would suit me just fine too.

Poster design by CONCEPT ARTS

Looking forward to this steelbook appearing in my neck of the woods . . . and unsurprising with approx.1,120 U.K. steelbooks released during the period May 2008 - March 2017 there are themes that repeat in the artwork and similarities, vague or otherwise, that can be spotted by the trained eye.

Hmmm still no uk announcement and I feel that the uk might get snubbed, I assume it would be a HMV exclusive if we were to get one and they would of announced it ages ago.

Hope I'm wrong though but at least there are other options to get this and I imagine the spine will actually be backward on this

I've seen the film twice now and although i like that poster art the guys at the bottom walking on what seems to be incredibly shallow water would actually be dead considering that's technically the deep ocean/ sea surrounding the island

Which now kinda makes me laugh looking at it

It's all about the apocalypse now IMAX style art or the Japanese graphic novel style art. Both incredible pieces

This is from Warner Bros so more than likely they will change the spine color to black, just like most of their releases seem to have.

Now that the artwork for the U.K. steelbook (HMV exclusive) has been revealed I'm wondering if that definitely inferior artwork will replace this one in the OP . . .

If a petition to Metropolitan can make them think twice about the printed colour banner header then maybe a petition to WB can make them think twice about the printed "3D" logo on their steelbooks . . .

the Metropolitan pettion is a joke : do you seriously think that 280 signatures has changes a thing ?
If yes, then why the metro steelbook for the last Resident Evil still has a printed banner ?

Changed from JOHN WICK 2 onwards.

That's still at least 280 lost customers and probably many, many more that simply refuse to buy steelbooks with printed banner headers in 2017 - and that's no small beer (280 x average EURO 20 = EURO 5,600).

Anyone that reckons JW 2 looks inferior to the Metropolitan steelbooks pictured below has stones in their heads.
So much better without the banner . . . and dropping that eyesore will surely increase Metropolitan's customer base:-

JW 2 vs. examples of previous Metro steelbooks

It's simple, it was too late for changing Resident Evil. But when they make John Wick 2, they take in consideration the petition, and you will see the futures steelbooks too.

^ Apologies for muddying the waters . . . KONG is of course not a Metropolitan steelbook as you so rightly wrote.
The point of my earlier post, more as a joke than anything, was to highlight the printed 3D logo and suggest a petition to Warner's to remove it on future steelbook releases (in the same way that the petition to Metropolitan appears to have persuaded them to desist from printed banner headers on their steelbooks . . . see JOHN WICK 2, France).
