based on the current trend of using the standard blu ray art as cover (toy story3,dumbo,fantasia) this will be the cover art

images

Imo that cover art is pretty good, especially compared to many of the other titles (and it's better than most of the other LatT home video releases). And it's based on that iconic scene.

A smaller title would be nice...

But why would they pick the BEST one, when they can go the other way, right?

Beautiful cover. Nice interior. Decent back. Like others have mentioned, not sure why they are doing this theme with the back of some of their Disney steels. Personally, I don't see the need (at all) to take images from the front and put them on the back with a blank background. But whatever... this is still really nice looking overall and I will still buy it and so will every other steelbook collector and it will still sell out.

Zavvi can't win.

People fail to realise that they can't please everyone, all the time. They've given us two great collections with some lovely steels in particular (Aladdin, Nemo), and it's not over yet. There's still plenty to come.

I don't know if any other UK retailer has the 'home of steelbookz' aura enough to pull off a Disney/Pixar collection, so appreciate that Zavvi are giving us one in the first place. Disney clearly trust them most.

No-ones forcing you to buy them. Right?

Amen, so far we've seen 5 disney titles, wfrr (yes i know it's not part of the collection) nemo, aladdin, jungle book and little mermaid. 3/5 of those are great and in many peoples top 10 or 20 and the other two aren't bad per say jsut the hype was too high. These steelbooks could and are likely to be great. Give zavvi a chance

Don't forget, they've also released Tron and The Rocketeer (as well as other non-branded titles like Iron Man 3).

Usually the designs have been okay, it's just the execution and finish that's let them down. Tron for example had a great design using original poster art, it was just the matt finish that spoilt it. If it had been full gloss it could have looked amazing (the blue would have contrasted with the black much better), or even spot-gloss would probably have worked.

Still, I don't blame Zavvi for these decisions. While I'm sure they try to have their say, ultimately Disney UK have the final say and if there's one thing we know about Disney UK it's that they don't like to put a lot of effort in.

Besides, matt finishes are now much more common and certainly aren't exclusive to one retailer. I think all the recent Warner releases have been this way, pretty much every Studio-Canal release and recent Fox releases. Not to mention Star Trek Into Darkness, Django Unchained and Masters of Cinema titles.

^
Not all Star Trek Into Darkness steelbooks were matte.

^^
Don't forget that NBK and FP are Warners. FP had matte as part of the effect but no denying that NBK was very glossy in among all the matte releases coming out.

If the retailer / studio pushes hard enough then it can be done...

its not about pleasing everyone, i think most of the people love the disney steels but on the same time most of us are not amused by the lazy backarts. so tell me how zavvi should know that most dont like the back if we don't tell em? they already approved the back from no art to a little something. that means they actually care. so why shouldn't we tell what can be still made better if we know they are actually listen to us? some people simply don't understand that this is not about moaning, its about the fact that giving feedback can help zavvi to realise what we really want and improving there products like they did it many times in the past. so i think your sink or swim mentality is on the wrong spot right here.

My little Granny bought me this on VHS in 1991. Every Christmas for about 7 or 8 years, we would put it on, have some Tomato Soup while looking out the window while watching the snow fall on the ground.

This movie holds great memories for me and my family and helps me remember times with my wee Granny.

I love Disney Steelbooks and I love Lady and the Tramp. It's as if this is being released in memory of my Granny and for me.

For once, Zavvi done good. Here's to you Zavvi. And here's to you Gran. I love your VHS, but I love the steelbook more... lol
