Hello Manchester Ninjas!

I'm considering going to Manchester on the end of september to see Kylie Minogue live at the Phones 4U Arena...
I could see her in France but I work on the 3 dates she does here :-(

So could you give me some advices on which hotel I could book that would be not too far from the venue... considering that I will arive at the Manchester airport.

Is it easy to go from the airport to the hotel, even very early in the morning?

Every bit of advice is welcome :) I know nothing about the town, so I'm a bit lost here...

Thanks guys!

Manchester is one of the best nights out in the UK! That's where I am from originally. You need to stay in any city centre hotels, and the best area is probably the northern quarter as that is closest to the arena. There is a hmv for steelbooks and plenty of restaurants. I'll send you a pm with more details.

Hello guys!! Just a bump for this thread...

Still looking for infos about Manchester, what to do in one afternoon, what to do at night... places I don't want to miss...

I booked a 4 stars hotel near the Arena, the Park Inn by Radisson. Seems nice.

Every bit of help is welcome so I don't feel like a total stanger.

Thanks guys!

Hey Petit Lu
If you are looking for Steelbooks go to HMV in the Arndale Centre for brand new items. Also in the Arndale, the is a CEX store. Sometimes they have steels, although these are used copies.
Also there is a FOPP store just off Market Street that has some steels.
If you like Football, maybe take a tour of United's ground, Old Trafford. Just a short bus ride from the City Centre.
Many great eating places to be found. Ning is my wife and I favourite. A fusion of Malaysian and Thai food. It's at the end of Oldham Street in the City Centre.
Best coffee house is Caffe Nero. Many in the centre. Strong European strength coffee!
Bring an umbrella!! Hahaha!!
Enjoy your time in this great City!!

I've not been to Manchester for about 8-10 years now, but I always liked being there (I used to go there for work). One place I'd recommend, as a film fan, is The Printworks, HUGE cinema and if you do go, then pay the extra for the 'Premier Seat'. When I went, it meant you sat on a 2 person leather couch and got as much popcorn, nachos and drinks as you could shovel down :p The view was also better, as you were in a box like a balcony at the top/back of the screen. I remember it not being cheap, but well worth it. Also, there used to be a number of good places to eat in the same complex (I often visited The Hard Rock Café).

But, as has been said, Manchester is a really good place for a visit, so whatever you do, enjoy!

Thanks guys!!!

I indeed looked up on internet for movies theaters... I arrive on thursday at 2.00pm and Kylie concert is on friday. So I basically have nothing to do on thursday afternoon and night (except enjoy the swimming pool of the hotel)
I plan on visiting a little bit of the city center in the afternoon after checking in at the hotel.
And on thursday night, I plan on going to the Odeon theatre. I saw that they have an Imax with indeed Premium seats. Never done that before as we do not have Imax in my town in France, and Premium seats do not really exist in France (except maybe in one or two cinemas in Paris)
But price is not cheap anymore Santa! 25 pounds for a ticket is a little bit expensive to my taste just for free drink and popcorn lol. But hey, I'm there for 2 days for a VIP experience, so I'll probably go for it anyway :)

Was thinking I'll probably need an umbrella but there is no way I'll be able to take it in the plane so I'll try to find one when I get there :) Hopefully it will be shiny. Don't want to wait for half a day in front of the Arena under the rain

Glad to help! Just a suggestion, when you arrive, rather than buy an umbrella, it may be worth asking if the hotel have any you can borrow. I'm not saying it's likely they will, but if you can have one and give it back it's cheaper than buying one.

Like you say, for the experience it's possibly worth it, but yes, it's not cheap at all anymore.
