Another change to a Marvel character!

In an online article the character Sam Wilson, also known as The Falcon, was named as the replacement for Steve Rogers.

Why not indeed? Well said Scary Hair and PunkNinja!!
The stories are the most important thing.
Do not let any prejudice cloud your judgement.
If the actor (or actress) fits the role, why should colour be an issue ?

Having a harder time regarding the female Thor....guess i am a little bit of a male pig! :)

Maybe a traditionalist untill you see the tight fitting lycra bum and boobs hanging out :wow:.

For me same again it is THE story that matters. The RIGHT person makes the DIffrence to successfully reach out to the paying audience.

It doesn't really matters if hes white, black or green as long as the stories are good.

It matters a great deal. Established characters with certain characteristics shouldn't be changed for the sake of political correctness. That's all this is as far as I'm concerned. Appealing to a new demographic looses more that it gains, the Hispanic Spiderman was a commercial disaster on a worldwide level. :)

Not for political correctness that is wrong however if the person playing the part iptimses that caricature then let an audience decide. @ phycoscot did not see the Hispanic Spiderman do you think another actor coould have worked better in that part ?.

These changes are to the books. The films are sticking with the original characters.

Marvel brought out a Spiderman monthly that was Hispanic and their original aim was to replace Parker completely, it was such a spectacular disaster that Parker remained and the new version became a side title of it's own much like Spider-Girl.

The other controversial one is James Bond. At the time of casting Craig they did look at several black actors, but quickly scrapped the idea pretty much forever after the tens of millions of hate mail received at Eon.

Now some types of people will scream racism at those who protest but when they do just ask the question on how the black community would react if Blade became white ;)

In terms of the books writers can do what they like, but when making a film the actor choosen should be based on does he suit the character not can the character be changed to suit the actor. :)

I have no problem with DC/Marvel writing new books with new ideas, providing they leave the original established character with their own book series.

I predict within a short space of time Rogers will be back and a Thor title will surface where the character is male again. Although personally I'm looking forward to the female Thor books :D

@ phycoscot Thanks I did not know about the book spin off.

I whould not have had a problem with a Black Bond as long as the actor could PULL OFF Bond. No good a six stone weakling someone with some ooomph. I have an issue with Bond anyway. Sean Bean SHOULD have been cast and Daniel Craig is only doing what Timothy Dolton tryed to. Same with Dr Who WHY NOT as long as the actor works as The Doctor.

Fact is in the world we live in how pure do we want to stay to the orrigonal . Age factors in as well Anyone under 30 Mad Max is new and interesting, those of us old enough are gritting our teeth , looking through gaps in our fingers that are covering our eyes.

but when making a film the actor choosen should be based on does he suit the character not does the character suit the actor. :) YOUR QUOTE Flower

And I CAN NOT AGREE MORE.

Totally with you on Bond, I like Craig in other films but he's no Bond. He looks like a brickie wearing a tux. Bond for me has to be suave, posh, slightly arrogant, and looks like he will kill you. Craig only fits that last one. I have enjoyed his Bond films, well 2 of them anyway lol.
