Received my copy of this the other day, I went to watch it tonight and I managed to set it to English audio but when I did that I kept getting french subtitles and I can't find a way of getting rid of them. I've got a few german steelbooks and they all play with English audio and no subs, I was just wondering if someone could fill me in on getting rid of the subs. I'm sorry if that sounds like a silly question but I can't watch a film with subtitles.

I can confirm that this has hard coded subtitles, tried to watch it today and found absolutely no way of turning them off.. Really France? REALLY? :( Oh well.. At least you can learn a bit of French and the steel is glossy :p

Think the artwork on this release looks a bit tacky, the UK one is rather dull though. But as Studio Canal titles go, I still prefer it over the ridiculously oversized disproportional window frames. :hilarious:

Forced subs? That sucks! I still like the design of this one over the UK one. I'll still probably pick it up and when the us amaray gets cheap, I'll just swap out the discs.

Not just forced subs but the GD texts he receives are in French  The ones he doesn't say out loud... Turned it off and will pick up an English version I guess

If you prefer the French artwork to the UK release, why not go for the German Steelbook? Its artwork is identical to the French release, apart from the title on the spine, which reads from top to bottom (normal for us Anglo-Saxons), unlike the French release, which reads from bottom to top.

Although the German release is also likely to be locked to Region B, it's highly unlikely to have forced German sub-titles. My copy is en route, so I can't yet confirm that, but on all of my German Studio Canal Blu-rays, the sub-titles are optional and can be turned on and off.

The German Steelbook is also cheaper than the French one, EUR 17.99 from amazon.de, as opposed to EUR 19.99 from amazon.fr. When I ordered it, it had dropped briefly to EUR 16.19.

So, the German Steelbook might be a better option for you than the French one.

I actually ordered it from amazon.de but combined it with other steelbooks so ti will be some time before I get my copy. If you could let me know if the subs in German are forced that would be great. Even if they were for this or for the French steel, I would wait for the US amaray to hit a good sale price and just swapt the discs out :)

I was going to buy the German Steel too, until I saw it had that printed back. :( So in the end I just watched the film and skipped the Steelbook altogether.
The film's decent enough, but not one I'm going to want to watch again any time soon.

I can confirm that the German sub-titles on the German Steelbook are optional for both the film and the extras.

Interestingly, the German disc effectively contains 2 versions of the film, depending on the language soundtrack selected. If you select English, the SMS texts are in the original English. If, however, you select German, the SMS texts are overlaid in German.

Hope this helps.
