Just a heads-up this was corrected with the 'special edition' version so I assume it's the same exact disc as that one. I am considering doing the same (getting rid of my amaray) but apparently the sound comparison isn't noticeably different...so I'm on the fence. Sell amaray to help fund steelbook or keep amaray and ignore steelbook?

No it wasn't.

Original release 2009 - VC-1 encode with lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.
Special Edition 2011 - VC-1 encode with lossless DTS-HD MA 5.1 (but wrong pitch)
New Steelbook edition will have the audio pitch fixed. No idea on the video, but assume (hope) it'll be the same as it's the best edition available with full natural grain.

BTW, the disc will have to be re-authored because Studiocanal will put their own intro logo on it. The current 2 editions have the Optimum intro logo on.

I preordered, first because I love Guillermo Del Toro's work and this film in particular, but also because I am 59% sure Zaavi will come up with a better back art more in sync with the magnificent front.

There are 3 months until release, so given the backlash here and given that they seem to listen to HDN (they wouldn't let us choose the art on some steelbooks otherwise), I'm sure they'll come up with something that looks less like a basic production still.

The front is superb though, and the lack of title particularly works in this case.

Love this film and love this artwork. Front is amazing with that pastel look and I personally love the back. Will not miss this.

(Really hope the back is not changed, really can't understand why people are against it)

I have (hesitantly) ordered this with the BANKHOL50 code just in case Zavvi decides to listen to the small army of collector's in this thread that have expressed disappointment in the back cover.

Sure some might like it, but those that like it are definitely in the minority. It's not too late Zavvi. Release date is still months away. Leave the back cover and watch the cancels roll in. Switch the back cover and watch this sell out.

i've got a feeling this steel is gonna look real dull :( :ohno: c'mon Studio Canal/zavvi pull your finger out & give us some quality!!

I love the cover, not wild about the back. Wouldn't mind that on the inside, but not the back
