We've seen some whiteish releases from Disney Germany (National Treasure, etc) - finish is good, but art is boring. Result: nobody cares about those releases. The only funny finish is on 'Johnny Depp in Wunderland', and nobody cares even about it.

we've seen some whiteish releases from eureka/master of cinema as well and they work for me (two lane blacktop, silent running, rumble fish).

Maybe. I've seen Rumble Fish, and it works due to graphic design, not due to wasted space. We need to see how this Miyazaki wave will turn out in reality.
Promo pics often are not completely true, especially before release.

*[Wishful thinking]* I wish this wave had some watercolor-style art instead, this would be really great.

i think this will be pretty epic if it turns out white and not silver and the finish is good as well.

I mentioned in the Nausicaa thread that I think sometimes the silver Steelbooks work if the artwork has a minimalist look to it (e.g. UK Trainspotting). These designs I find distracting and off because the white space clashes too severely with the images they've picked.

I agree that those Masters of Cinema releases work, but that's because that kind of look works for those movies, plus the fact the guys at Eureka know good design. These on the other hand just look plain uninspired.

Soooo happy to see a Studio Ghibli SteelBook run. I hope that the UK will spit these out quicker than Disney with their Ghibli titles in the U.S. and Canada. These will look great next to my Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch SteelBook! :D

Why is she flicking us off on the cover?... Look at her hand in the air

I hope they release a Grave of the Fireflies steelbook..

I'm hoping all of them get a steel each. We all want a complete collection darn it. ;)

Thank god for that Zavvi code. I missed Amazon's cheaper price, but I got this discounted enough for a £2 saving on each and A Clockwork Orange. :)

Although these pictures are obviously taken in bad light, this is a good example of how they will look if you catch them at the wrong angle, i.e. rubbish.

Yes, I agree. Rubbish. Fortunately we have been spoiled with digipacks (like the UK DeLuxe edition), so there is no reason to buy these steelbooks. The Miyazaki movies are great, and Ponyo is among my daughter's favourites.
