So first of all, I have applied and I feel I have a fairly good chance at landing a job in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I currently live in the US, and have not been to Scandinavia, so I need some input.

1. Would it be better to live in Sweden and commute to Copenhagen? From what I've read Copenhagen is very expensive to live.

2. How much is cable/Satellite TV, Internet and cell phone packages? I can't find any information on those.

3. Am I allowed to bring my car from the states and just register the car in either sweden or denmark, depending on where we will live?

4. How easy is getting a work visa, or gaining citizenship? I would also need the same for the entire family.

5. I hear it's actually pretty easy to get by, because most of the people speak english. True?

I'm sure I'll have more q's.. so thanks for any input so far.

Buddy, I would jump at the chance. It is scary moving like that. But it is no matter where you move to. I would love to live in Europe, think of all the exposure.

1. Generally speaking yes! Sweden is less expensive than Denmark and Copenhagen itself is more expensive than the other parts of Denmark. I read that 20 000 people commute everyday Sweden – Denmark. It’s easy and fast with the trains and Malmoe is superclose, just a few minutes with train. Not sure how accurate this is, but check here regarding living expenses USA – Denmark.

http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_countries_result.jsp?country1=United States&country2=Denmark

2. In Sweden (guessing Denmark is close) you get cell+internet from around 300 – 600 SEK. There are many different packages. Cable/Sat start at around 160 SEK.

3. The main rule is that the car should be registered in the same country you reside in. Try and send an email to Transportstyrelsen (DMV) and ask them http://www.transportstyrelsen.se/en/

4. Regarding citizenship (Swedish) check here: http://www.migrationsverket.se/English/Private-individuals.html

And for Denmark here

and this one:

or here

5. Yes, that´s correct you will get by both in Sweden and Denmark.

@adrenaline78 Best of luck :thumbs:

If you land a job in the EU, your employer should help you with the permits (work / maybe residents). NO need to apply for citizenship.

Oh, try to learn the basics of the language ASAP...

I live in village/subburb of malmö where loads of danes moved mostly because the houses was cheaper on this side plus its got train connection, you can get your self over to central copenhagen in 30 min your lucky but 45 mim more relastictly, it also is close to the europe road/highway that goes to the bridge

if you bring you car your you will most likely hit with import taxes, I think both in denmark and sweden

and just a warning owning a car in sweden and denmark isn´t cheap, hurray for comunial busses

it seem to have even out a little the advantage of living in sweden so some danes has moved, but I think most have stayed

also a mail to the swedish embassy for questions might be good idea

also pls bear in mind we don´t speak english with german accent, don´t know where that started in the movies

http://www.swedenabroad.com/en-GB/Embassies/Washington/

there´s a section called work & live in sweden

hopes this help

Yeah.. no idea if i'll land the job, but I hope so. Would be awesome me thinks! Thanks for the help so far. I'm sure I'll have more questions should I actually land the job.

As of now, the two places I was looking at "affordable" housing was Rokslide and Malmo. I don't mind a hour commute(I do that everyday here as it is.)

Ah, Roskilde! I have friends there in Herringsloese, its where we bought our dog (avatar) Nice country feeling to it, but I recommend Sweden! :)

Do you have unrestricted travel in the EU? Or do you need to carry your passport?

What city are you in Hooch? Should this all work out, I might need some help carrying boxes inside! :D

as EU citizen (citizenship with in a eu country)you should be able to travel unrestricted unless by airplanes, but your still required to be able to ID, but like between denmark, sweden, france, germany belgium there isn´t the border controls there used to be, but between denmark and sweden via the bridge there still is costumes officers

but for you who carry US citizen ship you might need you passport and maybe also travel visa, I know you need to travel to sweden from the US

hooch is futher north and I live south

Yeah, I figured I would need to keep my passport and any other pertinent documents available, I wasn't sure how often I'd be stopped by customs officers.

What's the normal temps like?

this summer we had almost sunshine every day and around 30C, during the winter it can be everything from 10C down to -20C here in the south sometimes we get a white winter and some times it´s grey, also there´s an expression called "swedish summer" basically it rains all summer

must be why peopel left to pillage other countries a millenia ago

eesh. 30 is hot.. but -20 isn't too bad. Our last winter here we had a stretch of days, seemed like a month, where it was -29.. brrrrr! I could handle your country for sure.

Just learning more and more about the area/region makes me want to go more and more.

yeah I stayed in most of the summer I don´t like temps over 20C, I´m afraid I´ll melt away

Are the rail passes a monthly fee, I assume there is, and can you use that pass to go around Europe? Or if you go into a different country, you need a new pass?

from where I live a 30 days monthly card is about $258 that´s about the cheapest one, that one also covers most busses in malmö and copenhagen

a trip for examplte for to copenhagen and back is $ 23 when using my prepaid card

to travel to other parts of europe you will need to go with the national lines and those are seperate

@adrenaline78 You bring the beer and pizza and I`ll carry all the boxes you want, buddy! :)

@raspor North? Nah, I´m in Ystad mate. I would say that qualifies as south...I am almost in the sea! :)

sorry mate I thought you where futher north, might have been due to the giant rat discussion but now that you mention it you might have said something in the swedish section, where we might need to invite adrenaline to, so he can learn swedish
