I've only been on here for a short while but think its funny how some members try and get full retail value for items. Now before everyone starts ripping me apart, I'm not saying they should get low balled but there has to be some give because if I was gonna pay an eBay price I would just buy it on eBay and make you (the seller) pay eBay fees and PayPal fees. To sum it up if you want full retail price just sell on eBay. No disrespect to anyone just saying my thoughts

That's all part of collecting. I am looking for a copy of a steel that came out in 2009. Would I love to pay retail? Yes, will I be able to? No, If I want it I expect to pay more than it's retail price. It's my fault I did not order it when it was released originally.

Commando was not a steel I wanted, I could have pre ordered it, but chose not to. Now after seeing pics I would love to have it. So I have to decide whether or not it is worth it to pay an inflated price. How bad do I want it.

It's really part of all things collectible really. Some stuff that's really popular will always drive the price higher rather than lower. Even unpopular items often tend to remain at retail or below but not by a lot. It really depends on the item. As a consumer you have the choice to buy or not to buy. If you don't like a price move on and hopefully a better opportunity with a better price might arrive. Good luck!

No I get that you have to pay a higher price for the good stuff, I collected football figures for a long time and always had to pay higher then retail price. What I meant by "retail" price was meant to be top market price. If something is going for $100 on eBay then you shouldn't charge the same on a forum because I can go to ebay anyday and buy it for that price it defeats the purpose of the forum.

There's a lot of people living in cloud cuckoo land with their pricing in the trade threads, and that is one of the reasons I've only bought a relative handful of items on here in all the time i've been on HDN.

But those people might say 'it's my item, I'll price it how I want', they are throwing out the bait and hoping to catch something. But I've always said that as a buyer I expect to be as knowledgeable as the seller, if not more, and I'll know a rip-off when I see it. If not then it's my own fault.

For all the complaining about ebay, if you want something and are patient enough, in my experience you'll get it for the best price on there.

The purpose of the trade thread here is not to offer members the opportunity to pick up steels cheaper than eBay, more to purchase from fellow collectors in the knowledge that you will get your steelbook, it will be as described, it will be carefully packaged and you have some redress if things don't go to plan.

I agree that some of the listed prices here are probably on the high side, but I for one don't know the exact value of everything I have on offer, so often guess at the approx value - if I see a certain steel is regularly offered cheaper by others I'll adjust accordingly.

I think without exception everything I have traded or sold here has involved a degree of back and forth agreeing a price and that's how it should be. I have listed Braveheart for £40 - is that the right price? I don't know - it hasn't sold so probably not. If you want it, make an offer, maybe I'll take £25, maybe I won't...it works both ways. I'm tired of people low balling me and expecting cheap postage and free packaging (bubble wrap doesn't grow on trees), but it comes with the privilege of being able to use this site to 'meet' other collectors from across the world.

That's a good point Ant, as we are a forum of collectors we know more about what other people may be looking for as far as condition goes. People label there steels as OCD mint whereas a seller on ebay may have no idea what we are talking about. People are free to price things at whatever they like, the bottom line is if its too much then the item won't sell! You can choose to buy or you can leave it and try and get another for a better price. An item is only worth what somebody wants to pay for it!

I def understand what everyone is saying and I am a seller and buyer so I know the market very well and never try to low ball anyone because I know how it feels. I was just more a less throwing my two cents out there

I tend not to buy on HDN but to trade instead. I've got some great trades in the past of things I thought were worthless and ended up with one of my high wants out of it. There's always someone after something I'm getting bored of

Basically I agree with what Ant said.

You can always PM the seller and offer a lower price, I am sure 90% of the members here will come down on their prices somewhat to make a deal happen rather than have to sell it on evil bay.

For me personally I keep my prices on the high side because I really want to do trades on here not sell, but I am always open to negotiation.
