Equally true. I really wish some people would stop with the fomo buying though. It makes things worse in the long run as studios just stop trying with their releases knowing the sheep will buy anyway.
It’s not really fomo if you like the film and the artwork displayed though is it. This package has been very well received and everyone loves the film, so…..
That feels like a fairly pessimistic outlook, the film was popular, well liked and just generally seen in a good light, isn't it only natural it should sell well and even if it's not to everyone's tastes they didn't have to release a CE version, they could have just put out a lazy basic steel and it would have still sold.
Flipping this around, what would you have preferred instead?

Yeah I think this was inevitable given how well this was received resulting in a far longer theatrical run than most expected, including IMAX. I know a few/lot of us here have expressed some issues with the design but I think most of us weren't going to pass it up unless it was something horrific like overblown AI art. I've come around to the design a lot.
I've also of late noticed people in some corners that generally don't seem that interested in steelbooks or special releases looking into them. I think bit by bit people are realising there is a difference between streaming quality vs blu-ray/4K. I've also noticed lately that a very popular Twitter/Bluesky account that generally posted any and every gaming discount based in NA has been posting about steelbook releases.
The account I first see this get confirmed on got over 15K likes for the beauty shot. I never see those numbers on an art reveal. Especially Steelbooks. The account gets a lot of likes on those kinds for reveal or announcement posts but this was 15x the usual so I knew it was going to be popular. Did mention this the other day too. I think there’s many reasons like you stated but this film also just resonated with people. Gosling is great. Cool alien. Visuals are stunning. filmed in IMAX. And the edition looks cool. I get it
They are keeping it very quiet if so. Not that they need to promote anything anymore and would be a sweet surprise but I can’t see them keeping that quiet if true
Probably just loaded with special features
