It would be nice to not have to see a film cold

I'm glad I am not alone in disliking Inherent Vice.
Anderson is the most overrated director of this current generation. (I may puke if I have to hear another person spew the sentence "Anderson is the best director working in film today.":vomit::vomit:)
You can't have a movie meander with NO PLOT and call it a "style". SO boring. He might as well hire a plane to fly around 24/7 with a banner in large Neon Letters blinking "I Am The New Robert Altman". Which he isn't. (And I am not a huge fan of Altman either...)
Kudos for the use of 70mm Film and widescreen - but, in regards to the "plot" (to quote Gertrude Stein)- "there is no there there."

Going to disappoint you here, but Inherent Vice is his only film I dislike lol. Although, that wasn't always the case... it's taken me a while to warm to most of them. I can agree with everything you said about this particular film though... the plot was either just too hard to follow or non-existent, because I have no clue what it was about. I tried watching it once before and fell asleep about an hour in, and was struggling to stay awake again when I watched it earlier. I liked the soundtrack and Joaquin Phoenix was great, even if I didn't understand who/what he was exactly. Can't ever see myself warming to this one unfortunately. :sleep:

Do remember that the trailer made it look funny? What a dissapointment...

They did the same walk with a song and each one of the cast joining in one by one just like BB.
In fact, I think Wes Anderson openly said he borrowed it from BB.
I honestly can't remember that bit at all. Probably about time I rewatched it!

Wes Anderson's movies are awesome IMO. and their criterion collection versions does them justice. about borrowing and Wes, he has admitted that the vietnam war play in 'rushmore' is based on apocalypse.now.

one can see similarities.

I'm not a big fan of Wes Anderson in general. Although, Bottle Rocket is great, and Grand Budapest is damn near perfect - everything in between is kinda hit and miss for me.
Life Aquatic did nothing for me. So I am in no way urging you to rewatch it...
Buckaroo Banzai, though....:woot::thumbs:
(You must have been in the wrong mood:naughty::LOL:).

I was never a fan until I saw Moonrise Kingdom, then went back and rewatched Royal Tenenbaums (which I originally didn't like) and also loved Grand Budapest. Been meaning to rewatch his older films for a while, but just haven't got around to it yet.

To be fair, I was watching BB whilst working, so didn't exactly give it my full attention. It was fun at least, and I was surprised I didn't like it in all honesty. I bought the ArrowVideo blu-ray anyway, so will give it another chance at some point. ;)

P.S. I'm always in the wrong mood. :grumpy: :p
